Even using Steam Link to play a typical JRPG on LAN, the stability and input lag is horrible.
Online is still stuck at 30 fps so any latency there is gets amplified to be make the game even more sluggish. It feels awful.
I still have yet to try OL, but I don't really want to play at 30fps again when the game works so much better at 60, but I think it's better to ignore that and see if the connection/response is good despite the performance
It's all about distance basically, and even in the same region for online mode there is quite a bit of input lag for the clients if you are doing cross platform, especially if someone is on a console and you are on PC, there could be bad latency if they are using wifi while hosting.
When you join a host, it seems like you are syncing to their game via a video-like stream due to how slow the input lag is (roughly 0.25 to 0.5 seconds of delay).
Still have yet to try OL, the producer said it was Rollback based but I don't know how it is in execution. That and how they handled crossplay too, I wonder if it covers every console :d
