Do Developers even know how to make their own engines anymore?

it is a significant cost to make own engine, on top of that it makes it costly to train new people on the engine, plus when the people who designed the engine leave the company it put the company at a huge disadvantage.

There really isn't that many upsides to creating their own engine.

Rationalizing & Justifying is all I hear when I hear people say what you just said.

it's the reality of the situation. You are free to deny reality all you want though.

Let them cope. it's going to run like trash and most of them wont buy it.
The specs are already out dude, if you have a 3070+ it will run at 60fps at 1080p

It's not denial, UE5 is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and more studios need to go back to proprietary engines.

IDtech is far superior to UE5, it looks stunning and actual runs without UE jank.

Yes, they do. But it seems both from the publisher side and from the customer side as well, devs are pushed to use UE5.

I think you don't begin to even grasp the cost of creating a proprietary engine.
It's of course possible for AAA studios but it is not even an option for AA studios if they want to aim for realistic rendering.
Sandfall (the devs behind this game) are around 30. It's simply not possible within their budget.
With all its flaws UE5 allows small teams to achieve similar results to AAA without needing 300M. This not even a choice for them.

And let's be honest. When UE5 actually works, it's kinda incredible. I played Lords of the fallen a few weaks ago, now that the game actually runs fine on a mid ranged pc. The LOD on texture and lighting is just crazy.
UE5 is probably the most technologically advenced engine for developpers. it is not complicated for a developer to handle and makes work easier on certain points. Easy does not mean "sloppy" and does not mean "not thorough". And you shouldn't ask a studio of 30 people to create an engine to create an AA. It's absurd.

Creating an engine requires a lot of people, a lot of money and for specific needs.

You seem frustrated with the ton of games released on UE5 and which seem to copy each other aesthetically, via Quixel bridge or Megascan for exemple. This is not the fault of UE5 directly, but of those who use it.

I use UE5. And I used UE4 before.

Why don't you finance them then with a few millions? Or are empty words all you can "help" with?
Vashe 27 Thg01 @ 3:30pm
Even the ones who tried to use in house (mostly japanese companies) have now shifted to UE. Because it's not the eatly 2000's anymore. Developping an engine cost more and will probably perform worse than UE or Unity
