that's like the basic benefits
What Perfect Dodge does indicate, however, is you have hit the button with the same timing you need to Parry. If you successfully parry an attack, or series of attacks, you get to counter attack.
This went down pretty quick.
pictos provide stat increases and a special buff / ability (like getting action points on a perfect dodge, the very first picto you get I think)
you can equip and inspect them in the character screen.
they play a role once the gameplay / story mechanic of Gustave's invention and Pictos (basically magic) is introduced which is pretty much within the first hour of the game.
you can also always read that stuff up once it's been tutorialized by opening the game's options.
to be fair the tutorial pops up only if you look into the menu, you arent told to stop what you are doing and open the menu, like those mobile game tutorials. But why wouldnt you look at the menu?
If you are literally less than an hour into the game, you could try just playing the game for a bit and seeing if your questions are answered? If you haven't even got to basic equipment yet, you are too early to be asking what things are for. The game tells you about these things.
Because dodges have a bigger timing window than a parry. Naturally you should be doing dodges first if you're fighting a new enemy just to get a feel of their attack patterns. If you're getting perfect dodges, then that means you are ready to parry.
It's telling you that "Hey, you did a good job. You should go for a parry counterattack for this attack sequence"
Dodge and parry are both in the game from the start.
