It's Like Dark Souls
Always level vitality. Don't be like the 500 HP mage who only levels intelligence and mind.

Dark Souls isn't the first or only RPG where it is beneficial for survive-ability to put points in vitality. You don't have to if you can dodge or parry well enough. Then you can put your points into whatever helps maximize your weapons damage for big hits that end the fights quicker.

It depends on you and how you want to play.

ACT1 is even more crazy about HP than Dark Souls.
Just few levels takes you from 150HP to over 1000HP. Literally 7x easier game when damage stats do close to nothing.

It gets flipped at the very end when you have 1hp and one shot everything.

But yeah, damage stats are a noob trap in act1. Same meme as dex builds in dark souls that get one shotted by a blow of wind.

Supposedly luck does more than just increase crit so I just went all in on it first. At some point I decided to throw 10 into everything to not lose so much value to diminishing returns, then continued going the rest of the way in on luck.

But yeah, going vit/def early on is good advice for most people. Damage just doesn't impact the fights that much, even though we all love big numbers. Not being too slow is also nice, so can't neglect agility either.

Really depends on your playstyle, personally in soulslikes I'd only get enough health to not be one-shot, but in this game (on Expert) it takes so much VIT to not get one-shot that it didn't seem worth it - especially when pictos have waaaay more stats than levels.

Levelling in general is pretty underwhelming in this game.

What you say is true mid and late game, but very early on the leveling stats are mostly all you get for the first few zones. Especially since early pictos don't usually give hp or def

Maelle is the only character I ever gave health to, and that's because she seemed to have some "tank" abilities like cover. But that was just my experience.
I can tell who gets two-shotted in Elden Ring PvP, LOL.

Never tried it, this is how I build PvE.

I think Agility for first Chapter is a must.

In Chapter 2, I focus on Vitality and try to be smart with Pictos and Skills.

Personally went with Luck and Agility all the way, don't need Vitality if I don't get hit :steamhappy:
- 10 in Vitality, Might and Defense. Agility and Luck to the max.
- Weapons that scale with Agility and Luck.
- Pictos that give additional Speed and Crit Rate.
- "In Mediah Res" Lumina.
- (Almost) Every possible Lumina that boosts your AP gain.
- Luminas that double every instance of Burn applied and increase crit rate against Burning enemies.
- Lune: Wildfire/Hell + Thermal Transfer+ Lightning Dance + Elemental Genesis.
- Sciel: All Set + Fortune's Fury + Intervention.
- Verso: Quick Strike + Blitz + Perfect Break + Phantom Stars + Steeled Strike.

About 90-95% of encounters end on Turn 1-2. Those that actually require some effort, you either bring your A game in regards to parries or you die.

"F*ck you defense
F*ck your vitality
F*ck your healing
I don't need that sh*t!"

Vitality is fairly useless in late game, unless your weapon scales off it. The amount of extra health you get from it is not worth it, when you can just equip a picto that gives you thousands of health. Very useful early on, though.
thats not true. I made a build that can do 30 million damage in the first round.
Vitality only matters until you get pictos that give you insane HP bonuses or if you have some weapon that scales off it. Getting some is still recommended if you don't want to get one-shot on Expert if you are doing higher level zones early.
don't need hp if you one shot everything anyway, also monoco with free +2 shield to anyone at will blocks any damage amount
