Massive oversight for gameplay by the devs [minor mechanics spoilers]
Yes, I know it gets removed at the end of Act 2, but the damage cap is a MASSIVE oversight. It really spoils the experience of the combat system until 2/3 of the game is already complete.

WOW! This skill does EXTREME damage?? Can't wait to use it!

Oh. It does 1 hit of damage. Meaning it does 6x less damage than my 6 hit medium damage skill. Because all my characters have been capped on damage every hit since somewhere in Act 1.

It removes the viability of so many combat skills until you complete most of the game.

No, I'm not playing on story mode.

This also affects the way character attribute points are distributed by imposing a soft cap on strength early in the game.

I put all my points into vitality and defense, and my characters were still doing 9999 damage per hit from a little over halfway into act 1. The luminas system is giga broken.
to be honest i think its fine. yeah the midgame is capped and the lategame is cheesable and broken on the other hand. but thats kind of the point. its well established in the genre that in the lategame, theres (sometimes less sometimes more) options to brute force extreme damage.
Did you just hit act 3? Removing the damage cap completely destroys the gameplay

I JUST hit act 3. Can't wait to see how much damage I can deal now lol. It's also pretty dumb that it's a lumina locked behind 5 points.

Lumina is also farmable so you can have as much as you like in act3.

The cap was really only bad on Sciel and Maelle (technically anyone really), because they have access to giant 1 hit attacks. The solution of course was to start using skills that hit multiple times. But playing on Expert, Parrying and staying alive was still the bigger thing to focus on than the cap.
I agree that towards the end of Act II you are so strong that you have to prioritize multi-hit attacks to maximize damage ( 1x 9,999 hit vs 6x 9,999 hits). However, I just considered this part of the experience and adjusted my strategy, plus enemies and bosses will be balanced around this. Trust me once you get the Painted Power pictos it is literally a requirement. Enemies in Act III can have millions of health which is not the case for Act I & II enemies,

5 points is nothing.

You're correct. However, that's clearly not the point.
If anything the game would be better with more damage caps. There should have been a 99.999 cap after that and a 999.999 cap after that.
From my perspective the gameplay is worse once the damage cap is removed.

5 points is nothing. The most expensive abilities require 40 points to equip and 10 is the normal amount.

You can one shot the final boss. It's really bad.
If people want to preserve the difficulty there's currently a 100k damage cap mod and enjoy Act 3's bosses like Act 2 finale

It was so dissapointing to finally unlock Payback to get that reward for parrying with her... and then notice I deal the same amount of the damage if I used literally anything else (and even applied burn while at it)
