I tried my hardest not to spec maelle into a 1 hit build, was challenging but fun. Then came Simon. I thought I was making solid progress until I got him below half health on the 2nd phase and he just erased my A team. I had had enough. I flew to the hyperbolic time chamber, trained my deadly pictos, threw Maelles blond hair back on and went full super saiyan on him. 0 regrets. 10/10 feeling.

My jaw-dropped when I read "phase 3"...

So I started the game earlier, got him down to 20% health then he waved his sword slowly and removed my team from the canvas even though Maelle was still standing...is this avoidable or was this like an enrage?

Either way I burst out laughing when it happened. He couldn't handle my swag so he said "♥♥♥♥ this, game over".

I didn't even know there was a phase 3. Simone went down with a single hit just like pretty much everything since act 3 on expert difficulty. I didn't even upgrade weapons until very late in the game and just used whatever got dropped from enemies. Maybe I'll try different build to see what kind of boss mechanisms I missed if I decide to replay the game in the future.

Defeated him by stacking 150+ burns with Corpeso for Verso and then when his HP bar will ~30% simply killed him using Medalum + Burning + offencive switch + burning canvas for Maelle in Virtuose stance with skipping the third phase. (of course Maelle must have 100% crit chance, in my case 50% basic and 50% using Critical Vulnerability + Critical Burn pictos )
I play on Expert difficulty, it's a pity there is no achievement for this on Steam...

Besides, is there any explanation why this guy is the strongest boss in the game and uses abilities that even the main bosses of the story never seen in their dreams?

I'm too lazy at the moment, to study his double/triple attack patterns in phase 2+.
first phase is fine but after that it's just learning. will do it later on eventually when I'm in the right mood.

Kind of. Basically Clea made him overpowered. To be fair he was foreshadowed in Old Lumiere where you can see the 4th Axon dead and all those swords littered around the entire area (even on the overworld map)
