Yep, I missed a minimap too, even a overlay would be fine. I know that they wanted it clean, but they could put a button to enable for those that can't find anything(me).
And it's also just a common sense. Now we have not an Expedition that carefully explores unknown lands, taking notes, marking and categorizing everything (and drawing maps of course) but a whole party of LEEEEROY JENKINSes.
It's honestly so easy to move around, a map isn't needed. Follow the lanterns/lit up paths for main objectives, follow dark/hidden paths for treasures and optional bosses.
Imagine that, a game where you actually need to use your brain for once.
It's a design choice. And one that's very welcomed.
If there was a mini-map or an overlay map that's what you'd be staring at for the whole game instead of enjoying the beautiful vistas and exploration.
