I have 26 hours of game time.

I can parry well enough, done a few fights with 20+ parries.

What displeases me:
I think parry is way too strong, because you're way too reliant on it.

for a "turn-based" game, there's very little strategic min-maxing needed.
It doesn't matter if you screwed up your rotation, brought a wrong element weapon, you can just parry yourself out of any problem. Boss Mechanics? just parry them LOL.

In my opinion, parry should NOT be practically the only way to get AP (I know there are other ways, but they might as well not exist because of how much they suck compared to parry).

Parry, like the dodger lumina should only give 1 ap per turn. Of course some other changes should be made to accommodate this change. Stuff like everyone having a passive 3-4 ap regen per turn, or maybe reduce the ap requirement of some skills. There's a lot to consider.

Lack of minimap, journal or map markers. At least one of these would make exploration a lot better already. Party of darn expeditioners and none of them use navigation tools or write stuff down?!

If you can parry well enough in this game, then you can dodge rain.
1. on ps5 the sprinting is broken and often interrupts
2. no adjustable hud and text size
3. pictos menu needs better options for sorting and overall visual clarity
4. no minimap for dungeons/areas. early its fine but later some areas get kinda confusing.
5. no quick retry button for fights

thats pretty much sums it up for me.

game is still a 10/10 for me.
The only thing I would want to see is a battle retry Vs having to go back to that spot to battle again and skip the cut scene so on. Just toss a retry if you die and start right back at the beginning of the battle.

Respect time

Other wise it's a amazing game 100%

I've found that not every attack is equal. Some attacks are very hard to parry, yet deal the least amount of damage, ensuring the party actually takes some damage. There's also very easy attacks to avoid, like jump dodges, which I feel are designed to give players easy damage. Then there's punishing attacks, ones that are both hard to avoid and deal a lot of damage, mainly coming from flying enemies. A lot of variety exists.

I can parry most things, and with a little practice I can get most of the rest. That part I'm fine with. The monkey wrench for me was when they added jump dodges and gradient counters. It's too much at that point, just another layer that basically does the same thing as the other two, but is an attempt to trick the player into pressing the wrong input. Good job guys, you really got me there. It really waters down the experience.

I would be interested to see if there's a playthrough on at least expeditioner difficulty and they don't parry at all. I wonder if that's doable. They can brute force it with dodge, but I'd imagine it would be a pretty boring run of just spamming base attacks and low-cost skills.
I don't like the dodge/parry system in this game because it kinda kills any idea of balanced build, tanky chars, etc, as the main gameplay loop is to avoid all damage altogether and then just maxx attacks
And you cannot avoid it and not use parry/dodge, because then you die

I feel the game has a lot of potential in challenge runs and general replayability. I'd like to try it myself where I build defensively and play on easy mode to see if I can make it feel like a standard JRPG.

This, right here! I spent what feels like an eternity just skipping turns until I'm dead when I couldn't beat dude who heals from burns. Will need to revisit that one when I get more powerful.

You are able to load to checkpoint while in battle. :)
Edit: I'm also one of the people vouching for the retry button though

Retry would especially be required for people wanting to do a 0 hit run, without straight up restarting the entire game.
