Why do the difficulty settings blantantly lie?
The middle option says the timing QTE attacks and dodges make things easier but are not required which is a complete lie.
If you miss 2 dodges / parries a fight is over...

Im done with this game until a patch in a setting to disable the nonsense altogether.

why did you buy a game where QTE Combat was the main selling point?

and on easiest difficulty, if your dying to enemies, your not levelling your Defence and health and is completely a skill issue.
Settings > Accessibility > Battle > Automatic QTE > Enable

Learn to read please, I said the middle setting. And I started playing because it seems like a good RPG and hoped the QTE nonsense wouldnt have such a huge impact.

You level health?! Why?

That's for attacks only. You got to read the description.

They aren't required. There is a ton of healing in this game, buffs to increase defense, ways to end battles quickly, and enemies do very low damage on Expeditioner difficulty as soon as you put more than a couple points in Vitality and Defense.

This is about the early game where the first boss and optional fights just wreck anyone who isnt perfect with dodging

The game has a lot more room for error than you think. I think that probably the entire main storyline is possible even on expert mode without using any of the dodges - I'm not sure if the postgame will be possible on expert since from what I've heard it's a lot harder than the main story and some of the fights have been pretty brutal already, but I'll see how it goes.

The optional fights are obviously not possible at the time that they first show up without dodging (without completely ridiculous amounts of grinding anyway), but there's no particular reason that you need to do them immediately - you can just ignore them and then backtrack to them later on, they never go away. The first optional boss becomes a lot easier once you have a 3rd party member for instance (even if it one shots your characters still at that point, with the 3rd character you can just resurrect characters each turn they get KOed and burst it down before you run out of resurrects as it only ever uses single target attacks).

The first boss (I did have to do a decent amount of grinding, I think it probably wouldn't have been necessary on a lower difficulty though):

And the first boss of act 2 a bit later on (later in the game there are a lot more options available, I don't think I was overleveled this time - I don't think I made any particular effort to grind since the 2nd boss, although I did spend a lot of time backtracking through areas that might not have happened in a normal playthrough):

Agree to an extent. I wish the parry and dodge would have a cue like the attacks on a easier setting... then you could at least learn the timings better without just failing each time.

They do have cues. That being the mob animations. Once you learn them its easy and yes I did in fact type up an explanation, on this forum, not typing it again.

Nothing is stopping you from leveling up and assigning stats if you can't parry or dodge.
Learning new games can be hard. You can't reasonably expect to master a game in 5 minutes.

I dont think it should be. I'm playing on the highest difficulty and missing a dodge or parry or two only matters on the hardest enemies. (which are optional)

Also, regular dodge is very forgiving. Its not hard to dodge attacks.

I highly recommend to respec and invest all your points into vitality. It’s absurdly OP in this game while damage stats are super weak and do almost nothing early on. Aim to get 1000 HP ASAP. This will turn attacks that would kill you into a small slap doing 20% damage.

Also remember of healing spells. The most basic one heals 50%. Healing items refill at bonfire.
