Is there any XP share for benched party members?
I have a really good set up and a new party member has been added 5 levels below my current level, just wondering if that party member is someone I have to actively grind up or they'll level with the active party? Doesn't seem so, but most recent RPG's pop up letting you know when you get extra members.

yes, they still gain xp and level up at the same rate,

they also go into a reserve party just incase you wipe. you can still flee with them or try to win with them.

The claim about at the same rate is completely wrong. They do NOT gain it at the same rate. Tested just now with Lune being in the bench and I gained 6151 xp for the fight. Lune had 29,898 going into the fight in the bench and when the battle was over she should have been at 36,049 which is NOT the full 6K xp I got. She ended up at 32974.

In short Benched Character get HALF of the XP not the full amount.

They do NOT get the full amount in the bench. Just tested and benched characters get exactly half of the exp earned in the match. Lune was in the bench for me at 29,898 going into the fight and when the battle was over she should have been at 36,049 which is NOT the full 6K xp I got. She ended up at 32974
And what about characters that died in battle; do they also gain EXP at the end of that battle?

Yes

That's not quite accurate.
Benched character's don't gain the 20% no-damage bonus (which isn't even truly 20% -- it's actually between 30~40, I'm not quite sure why).
So they will level up slower, unless you are struggling hard with every regular fight.

From what I can tell, I don't think they get full xp from the fight though.
Yeah, they don't get exp at the same rate, sadly.
My Sciel started with the same level as everyone else. But I didn't use her at all, so that she is now 3 levels lower than other 3 members.

Because the 20% bonus doesn't apply to the total amount of XP gained. For some reason they apply the 20% after each enemy killed like a running total. So the more enemies killed in a battle, the more of a bonus you will get. For example:

Kill 1 enemy worth 20 XP and the XP awarded will be:
20 x 1.2 = 24
24 instead of 20 (+20% XP)

Kill 2 enemies worth 20 XP each and the XP awarded will be:
20 x 1.2 = 24 --- Apply the 20% bonus to the first enemy killed
24 + 20 = 44 --- Add the second enemy's XP
44 x 1.2 = 52.8 which rounds to 53 --- Apply the 20% bonus XP again
53 instead of 40 (+32% XP)

Kill 3 enemies worth 20 XP each and the XP awarded will be:
20 x 1.2 = 24 --- Apply the 20% bonus to the first enemy killed
24 + 20 = 44 --- Add the second enemy's XP
44 x 1.2 = 52.8 --- Apply the 20% bonus XP again
52.8 + 20 = 72.8 --- Add the third enemy's XP
72.8 x 1.2 = 87.36 which rounds to 87 --- Apply the 20% bonus XP again
87 instead of 60 (+45% XP)

This is just based on some quick testing but basically the more enemies in a fight, the higher the bonus will be. I think the order you kill enemies may matter but I haven't tested that scenario yet.

Also, I'm not sure if it working this way is intended or a bug.

Benched characters only get a certain fraction of the XP. My benched characters are about 7-9 levels lower than my main characters I use every time.

I can confirm this does appear to be how it works, and also that the order does matter. I went and tested on an early game group, and got these results for the kill order:
Cruler-Démineur-Lancelier 6,476
Cruler-Lancelier-Démineur 6,476
Lancelier-Cruler-Démineur 6,300
Démineur-Cruler-Lancelier 6,300
Lancelier-Démineur-Cruler 6,151
Démineur-Lancelier-Cruler 6,151
Base exp (if damage taken) 4,333
From which I conclude that the Démineur and Lancelier give equal exp (so it doesn't matter which way around those two are killed) but the Cruler gives more exp (so killing it first so it gets all three 20% boosts applied to it gives the best result).

If this is working as intended, I can maybe see some logic to it? Killing strong enemies first typically requires a bit more skill than killing weak ones first, so it wouldn't be all that weird if they set it up like this to reward something like that.

Kind of annoying that it's not made clear, though.
