I only lost 1 villager to combat thankfully. However, since my attention was focused on prepping for it, I was not as prepared for winter and ended up losing 3 more villagers to starvation.
Hit and ruin with the berserkers like its a dark souls enemy if its focusing you but kill them as fast as possible as they are the most likely to hurt/kill your colonists with their non-stop swipe attacks and AOEs.
That being said, so long as you have at least 3 people in your barracks you should be good. But to be safe you prolly want a second barracks and have 6 guards. Even if you just switch them back to normal jobs afterwards. 3 guards is just the bare minimum, doesn't mean you can't lose with 3 lol. Get a kennel as well and train up 2-3 puppers :D.
The attack goes all day long so a healing hut is also recommended so you can heal up quickly and return to help your colonists.
It either needs to arrive sooner, or enemies need to be a bit tougher imo.
Well, my problem is that I just got this notice and still havent found an iron node even though I feel I've scouted quite a bit of the map, which means even if i find it by now, by the time I put a mine and reasonable supporting infrastructure and staff around it, and try leveling people and crafting, I fear the invasion may be ongoing. This is assuming I find one soon which hasn happened in several in-game days yet. Im thinking maybe i should start a new game hoping that a new seed puts a mine closer to my first base, right?
A good starting seed is Worst2024, my SO and I play that atm. The cave is like a few steps inland from the wreck. You could'nt miss it if you tried. And the area is flat and a good starting point for a camp (deer, fish, plenty space for farm and a lot of thatch in easy reach) with no smolkers around until you explore further in. That said, the cave has the downside of not having the large boss-chamber. Until now we thought every cave has that. So we exhausted it now with about 52 villagers and 1 fully extended Longhouse + 6 Fighters and max Tier 3 Eye of Odin Militia with weapons. The other mines are a bit of a walk northwest (closer) and northeast (farthest) so we're currently building a small outpost at the closer one with support from the main settlement and a self sustaining little village for the other one.
It's still not too bad as we have about 100 nails in store and the iron weapons and tools leave the broken iron parts that are collected and reused by the smith. Most military is archers on towers with no need for metal parts except maybe better armour at some point.
