That ending.
Wow, that was a horrible ending. I don't know who wrote that but something tells me they had a stroke right when they got to the final part of the script.

Well written characters in a story have an arc in which they grow as a person. Joel kinda does that, although its not done very smoothly so it's already kinda unbelievable but when we get to the ending... yea. That was some TERRIBLE writing. You could tell that the devs wanted a gauntlet event at the end so the story had the suffer as a result of it.

Easily the worst ending in a videogame I have ever played and i have 100s of hours in mass effect 3.

Really? Do I want to know?

I thought it was ok, not that great but not bad either

If you thought this ending was that bad then you'll regret every second you spent in the second part once you finish it

what do you consider the ending? imo the game ends when you run out of the hospital. that was great. music delivered. everything beyond is the aftermath and setup for part 2.

Everything from the point where Joel realizes that they need to kill Ellie to find a cure is terrible. It is very clear that the devs wanted a gauntlet event. Well, we've had a billion gauntlets already featuring raiders so why not add one more of those? It also would have shown ACTUAL growth to have Joel convince the fireflies through dialogue to not kill Ellie instead of through force. But the thing that really clinches it is the lie Joel tells her in the car. That was the point where i alt f4'd the game and uninstalled it.

well it was a brain surgery, iirc. you may not survive that. you know?!? likely less in the apocalypse scenario. and joel protected the target and maybe a lil bit of his adopted daughter plot. that's the perspective you're playing as and are recommended to follow. you were not in the game.

there is no possible thing Joel could say to convince them. From their POV, Ellie was the hope of humanity and any normal person would've picked to try and make a cure. Only Joel is so obsessed with Ellie that he's willing to sacrifice so many people for her.

it would've been significantly worse writing if he convinced them with words lol

As for the lie, he knew that if he told her the truth she would've tried to sneak out and seek someone to make a cure. Another thing he did because of his obsession with keeping her safe.

Honestly your version of the story would've been complete garbage, the real one is ok.

there is no possible thing Joel could have said to convince them in THEIR version of the characters. At the start the firefly lady is shown as compassionate and willing to risk her own life to SAVE Ellie. Sure, she wanted whats inside her head, i understand that, but she wasn't shown as the cruel and ruthless person she is at the end, when they ruined her character.

I bet my left nut that the game had a different, better ending at the start but they couldn't figure out a way to work the mandatory gauntlet event at the end with said ending so they changed it. The head of ND could come to my house on the winter solstice and tell me themselves that this is NOT the case and I still won't believe them. The ending is so abrupt, so out of beat, out of character. It honestly feels like "it was all a dream" would have been a better ending than this pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

And of course you think my version of the ending is inferior because 1) you are emotionally invested in this ending and its been the ending for years so you have grown used to how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it is and deluded yourself into thinking its good and B) I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL WRITER.

p.s. If you want to see how you write a "words change the outcome" ending for this game play Mass Effect 1, chose all paragon choices and watch how Saren, the villain who is responsible for 10000s if not 100000s of deaths and has been mind controlled by a gigantic sentient AI spaceship called a "reaper" offs himself. THROUGH DIALOGUE. It is 100% possible, you just need talented writers who have the balls to tell the higher ups "no that won't work."
It wasn't terrible. I just wish they hadn't KILLED Marlene off. Without posting spoilers for part 2 I think Her playing a part in the second game could have made it considerably better.

Havent played 2 but several people (on here and on reddit) have said that 2 had a much worse endings. I think 1 has an awful ending. I hated the gauntlet, i hated the evil doctors and i HATE the lie. So im not sure im ready to find out how 2 ends lol. Not buying the game tho.
The TLOU universe is not made for aything near a happy ending. It's inconvenient from start to finish :-/

I just started a post about Joel and I'd love to hear your opinions :-)

The endings will SEEM horrible because, well didn't you get the embedded meme?

When Joel and Ellie first get the truck from Frank. Ellie saying "Oh man I hate that... What?... To be continued!

Well yes of course, many comic books do that and this is an apocalypse scenario so good luck finding those other comics, right? Anyways that wasn't the point. The devs were straight up telling you this is going to be continued from the start. TLoU is going to be a trilogy folks. So I hope you understand that.

I would have thought that would be a far worse ending to "talk" people out of trying for a cure. There is no way any group was going to forgo a cure because it might kill one stranger. That would be have been beyond the realm of believeability and I would have thought it a cheesy and trite ending from lazy writers.

As for the lie... he had no other choice. He had to lie.

I don't get why you think the ending was bad. It wasn't what a "hero" would choose, but it wasn't a badly written ending or even a bad ending. It was a sad and tortured ending by a sad and tortured character. Seemed to fit.
I finished the game as well yesterday and well. I only played it because everyone in the internet was like "11 out of 10 game, must play!".

Grafics are top I palyed on max settings and its rly a eye candy. It looked so good.
But the gameplay / gameplayloop is rly broing and here you can feel it that the game is older. Why got Elly the overpowered knife to kill clickers ealsy and Joel not? The upgrade system is rly boring.

The storytelling and characters are nice but the end plot is so obvies in my opinion...
And I still dont udnerstand why Joel lied to Elly in the end... If he should sadi "sry they would killed you and I couldnt handl this"... Elly would have for sure not said "bring me back and let me killed" lol...

LMFAO!!! You think the fireflys were just going to let Joel and Ellie walk out of there!
