Smart cleaner boss wtf

I don't know if I am missing something but this boss does not make sense. It has two "weak points" which are not weak at all. The whole battle is just "keep picking the boss with 1hp by 1hp out from the 9999999999999999hp this boss has for 2 hours and try not to get squashed". There is no fun in it, it is just absurdly prolonged battle. I tried different builds, the boring unnecessary long picking is the same all the time.
Tried vertical missiles into the chimney because everybody praises that .... the vertical missiles function when you are on the ground and there must not be low obstacle and such. Not exactly convenient. The boss cannot be staggered, at least not by the weapons I used.
So ... usually I just run out of the ammo or AP while the boss still has hp. As I said - either it is just broken or I am doing something wrong. Not sure what tho.

PS: What bugs me the most is not the difficulty but that this play is no fun at all. Even if I scrap the boss after 953665366 hours of attempts I have a premonition that there will be no satisfaction at all, just boredom and annoyance from illogical and tiresome battle mechanics.

edit: Sigh .... yes, I am hitting the face and the chimney. Yes, I am flying to evade the huge curling irons or whatever the heck these are. I am doing everything and yet the battle is boringly long and tiresome. That was the point. Anyway, thanks for the answers (with exception of few that are usual condescending ironical bs)

yup. there is no way you're making a mistake, we all spent 953665366 hours killing it because there just was no other methods or anything.

Even people who can ♥♥♥♥♥ slap every final boss to death with an S rank can be pranked by the garbage hitboxes and target logic of the smart cleaner, yeah.

Some runs the pule bunker even just harmlessly no-clips through the staggered body. Vertical missiles going in the top tube is also essentially gambling.

You can have some shockingly good luck using the starting weak x4 missiles (I forget if the x6 version of those is unlocked yet" shot into the front vent. Line rifle charged shots can also slam half the stagger bar through the front vent if it isn't shooting slightly to the side of the actual vent. Which it can do even when it is staggered and stationary.

Smart cleaner is just not QA tested very well in spite of being part of the preview streamer access content. Bring the basic blade for post stagger hits as that is more consistently able to have the hits "count"

get above it, and shoot down the hole in the back, stagger, then blast's it's face. or you can stay above it can blast down the hole more.
Repeat until dead.

Shooting at red front window-ish weakpoint can accumulate stagger quite fast even if using rifle.

Ya gotta actually shoot down it's hole. It's faceplate is also weak but you have to actually hit it.

i cant beleive someone couldnt figure out to shoot it in the weak spot, aka the open stack on top of the machine. fly up lock on to the stack and unload, repeat until its destroyed.

I beat this boss, and this game, using the starter AC.
You are obviously not attacking it's face. That's how you stagger it.

you know you can fly right? Assault boost up, shoot rockets and all other weapons in chimney and then fly away. Regen stamina and repeat. simple as that.

I honest to god believe there is no helping ppl like OP. The smart cleaner is the one boss were most of us is like,'Imma fly above him'.

It's a 90% melee boss in a game where the player can fly. You'll get it eventually.

The battlefield is the main issue, not the boss. Vertical missiles don't work due to the low ceiling of the room.

And yes the weak points are weak, just don't expect a huge boss to go down in 5 shots just because you hit its weak point.

The weak point above it isn't as weak as the frontal opening from my experience. If you have low burst damage, rapid firing weapons target this one, preferably to build up impact and stagger the boss.

Once the boss is staggered PILE BUNKER THAT MF RIGHT IN ITS FRONTAL OPENING. It does a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of damage.

it's not a grind fight, you have two targets for a reason, and it's pretty predictable.
equip high dmg direct fire weapons (I'm partial to the Javelin), and either smack it in the mouth while it stands still or use quad legs to hover around (not directly above) and unload into its chimney.

It's weak to explosive weapons, so use bazookas or grenade launchers on either of its vulnerable spots to stagger it. You also might want to try quadruped legs to hover over its vent and avoid the napalm. Just listen for the warning tone to avoid the "eruptions," obviously. You've got this.

while you can lockon the weakpoints, your projectiles need to physically go into the weakpoint holes, otherwise you hit the armour and your weapons won't do damage. It's also fairly weak to explosive damage. So, vertical missiles should do well if you aim for the blow hole weakpoint. If the ceiling is giving you trouble with those vertical missiles, then you can choose straight firing missiles or something else, or a grenade launcher and you'll have to fly above the boss and dunk those bombs right into it's blow hole.

You can also use tetrapod legs to freely hover over the boss to do this as well, then just calmly dump bombs into it's hole. The only attack you have to watch for is it's volcano attack if you hover above it. Aside from that, it literally has no other attack that can hit you in the air.

If grenade launchers or missiles aren't your thing, I personally did it by just pumping good ol' fashioned bullets into the top hole myself. Machine guns or even the assault rifles, which recently got buffed, are excellent choices.
