This game has a tenancy to force you to play a certain way or use a meta build to complete missions, especially it's dark souls bosses. Failure to switch will most likely result in you restarting ALOT unless your really good.

the game never forces you to do anything, i beat the entire single player including NG+ and NG++ with pretty much the same lightweight Nachtreiher AC for the whole time.

AC6 need humanoid arm and head so you can't build Rex and Rex

Comedy light spoiler. One of the hardest non boss enemies in the game is "Wait a minute is that metal gear rex on rocket skates!?" but you might be too busy trying to survive to realize until later.

So clearly the devs knew how powerful Rex is. the main plot also makes a big deal about a massive shoulder mounted railgun.

Playstyle wise you can be very rex like, but they did turbo nerf kicks in the last patches. Which leads to some awkward cases of stomping on something's face and they are slightly alive/not yet staggered even after you fed them a bazooka first.

The guy is asking for limitations of the cosmetic customisation and y'all are discussing meta builds.

One gimmick boss (which is awesome btw) asks you to use a specific weapon, that's it. The rest of the game is more dependent on your skill w your preferred build

Sorry to be blunt

and you don't even actually have to use that weapon either.

Meanwhile, I'm S-Ranking missions with whatever I like, because I actually understand how to play the game.

Whenever you play a difficult game, your skill is always going to have to lean on specific equipment in the learning phase. Once you know what you're doing, you can build whatever you like (to a point) and be fine.

In terms of cosmetics, you can do whatever you like with the paint scheme.
As far as physical parts, there are tons of weapons that serve different purposes at different distances, For the physical structure of the mech, I think there are around 20 parts, each for head, leg, chest, and arms. So, if all you want to do is make Metal Gear Rex, you won't be able to make a 1:1 recreation, as their structures are quite different from that style of mech.

You're limited to Gundam-esque robot parts so no, the build variety is very limited compare to what you want.

The mechs are generally humanoid in shape, head, torso, two arms, two legs (barring certain leg types), and you're choosing from a selection of pre-designed parts. I saw someone make Optimus Prime, but any Metal Gear would be a tall order.

Megatron is also a popular cosplay.

God bless high performance heads with conveniently flat panels for a face that people can easily slap a custom decal on.

Customization and fashion in this game is wonderful with the enhanced paint menus, but the real reason to take the plunge is the amazing emblem and image editor allowing you to pull some stupid custom paint on your masterpiece lol. Worth every second if you enjoy making your own personal mech >_< Honestly been dreaming for recent game with such a detailed paint menu and this game delivered, I would say the only downside is the decal limit of 40 per part but that is more than enough to detail what ever you want.

Anyway become the armored core you always were meant to be!

Individual parts are model based. IE you cannot design a mech from scratch with your own shapes. You can however mix and match any combination of the following:
- Head
- Legs
- Torso
- Arms
- Right hand weapon
- Left hand weapon
- Right shoulder weapon
- Left shoulder weapon

There are also a few other parts, but they mostly aren't visible cosmetically.

You can also apply your own custom designed emblem using any combination of the existing shapes. Check the artwork section, some of the more creative examples should be visible. Emblems can be placed anywhere on your mech, with about as many as you want.

You can of course apply your own paintjob to your mech using pretty much any color of the rainbow, as a whole or on different sections of different parts. As well as apply weathering, or luster... the amount you can customize here gets a little insane to be honest.

You are limited by the parts, but you're allowed a lot of creativity with the paint job too.
