Aurora Light-Wave Cannon: BUFF REQUIRED.
Seriously. As it stands, the stupid thing doesn't charge up anywhere NEAR fast enough, its tracking is abysmal, and it's basically inferior to Plasma Missiles in every way. It needs a performance increase something fierce, and it needs that buff yesterday.

Amusingly, they did buff it. So now if it ever actually hits you (usually when you are already staggered by somebody else) it actually moves your health bar.

The on paper damage is better, but in practice you gotta HIT for it to matter, yeah.

Try using the basic x6 horizontal missiles for a while if you want the opposite lifestyle of "On paper weak. In practice will be hitting keep away skybox hugger babies 3/4 of the time" once you get sick of split missiles botching the job even on a staggered target.

Also, don't rely too much on plasma missiles. they don't do as much as everyone claims, and they are mistaking "Might actually hit thanks to prox fuse" for "Overpowered". instead use their fast multi lock so you can help your team with attacking more than one idiot at the same time, otherwise you are going to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disappointed no matter how many meme videos "prove" plasma is "op"

At this point, I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thank god if I see somebody bringing twin plasma missiles when running a light mech.

there are a few ways you can make them much better, since the last patch.

1. use the generators with a high energy firearm specialization. these will improve the load time for the missiles and bolster their damage and stagger output.
2. use a missile specialist FCS with high missile lock correction. this will significantly improve the poor lock-on time.

if you do these things, with the VE-40B generator and a good missile FCS you can fling aurora missiles out impressively fast, and thanks to their high guidance and stagger, you can put a lot of pressure on foes with them.

TL;DR: the auroras, by themselves, are not fantastic. however, if you build around them, they can be spectacular.

People like them, not because they're overpowered, but because they are very, very reliable. They without a doubt don't have the damage output of grenade cannons, bazooka, the high lasers, plasma cannons, etc. The distinction being that those weapons can often miss agile opponents.

Plasma missiles almost never miss no matter what you fire them at. That definitely makes up for them not being DPS monsters for me. Not to mention their barrages to the same damage as most regular missile barrages, and are more efficient at taking down groups of enemies.

That reminds me, what if they give it an AOE effect and basically make it a stronger plasma missile?

What they need to do is buff its tracking. They're tracking lasers for gods sake, if there's supposed to be a weapon that's unavoidable, this would be it.

The trick to the Aurora Lightwave Cannon is you want to build a VE-20B hug build around them.

Their advantage over Plasma is they have Shield Interference, and a relatively significant direct hit modifier, and if you're sticking at around 85 to 120 meters they actually hit pretty reliably.

From there you can setup with arms with an Energy Shotgun & Pulse Blade or Laser Pistol and Moonlight/Redshift depending on your bias.

They actually have really good tracking once you understand how to use them and they're actually rather effective. They are however quirky and hard to use due to you having to operate in a relatively narrow hug envelope where if you're too close or far away they miss.

My issue with them is 25 effective shots is kind of low in the PvE context to use said builds given how quirky it is, and so I would tend to argue the ammo allocation should be increased a bit to something closer to 40.

Agreed. Even post-patch they are underwhelming, which is a bummer since the name and visual presentation are so over-the-top. As of now, they're just bait for noobs, imo. I can't think of any application or aspect they might have (distraction tactic, personal fulfillment, visual presentation, etc.) that doesn't have a more optimal alternative.

Aurora work great at 100-150m use missile FCS and hard lock you can shoot it faster than plasma missile. so it's basically for a close range build

This could explain why they feel worthless as enemies, because 90% of the people using them are trying to play maximum keepaway skybox boy when I see them.

Also generally anyone staying that close is going to be much more focused on either melee weapons or shotguns to try and worry about missiles too. Close range combat is pretty intense and prone to change, and if the missiles don't lock fast enough they are useless.

Lol many of my most powerful ACs use the Auroras. These things go HARD if you (like others in this thread have said) build around them. VE-20B generator and the P10SLT FCS. Throw some laser rifles or pistols in your hands to also take advantage of that genny, And probably try to fit some decent firearm spec arms in to compensate for the missile focused FCS. And you have yourself one potentially very powerful PVP build, thanks in large part to the incredible Aurora lightwave canons.

Here, let me give you one of my builds that uses Auroras. Don't bash em till you try this.

I love lasers but I hate the loooooooooong delay on recharge for using the super laser generators. Curse you for giving me genuine trade offs instead of "Pick three ♥♥♥♥ stats and one adequate stat". armored core 6.

EDIT: *uses the laser missiles for a whole single match* oh right enemies recover so fast they can dodge the slow as ♥♥♥♥ beams even after a stagger, right. The exact same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can pull as a light mech is why I don't use em much.
