Probably the same engine as Elden Ring, Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. In-house FromSoft engine AFAIK

It's their own engine they have been using for over a decade now for the Souls games and beyond for sure. Don't see them just doing a 180 and switching to any other engine.

Some people think that their engine appeared first as fork of Sony's Phyre Engine (it might be a rumour, though).

No idea, its not open source so only FROM and Bandai knows.

It's not Unreal nor Unity and that's good.

Some sort of multi-core engine. Maybe with some firewall protection. Armored Multi-core engine perhaps.

Perhaps someone can look in a magic 9 ball and find for answer for this topic. If not I just assume is is a silent line of code in this engine.

I like how From Software... actually made their own Software... ohh for the love of god will they re-release that DOS executable for agricultural management?

in short its their in-house engine going as far back as AC1/King's Field now no one really knows what came first but rumor just has it AC1 was in development earlier and that King's Field was their asset flip so it had a more faster production time table

it would also stutter

From what I hear Elden Ring was a stutterfest on pc release and hasn't got much better. It's why I bought it on SX. Plays good on console but of course with the obligatory graphics sacrifice. I'll take smooth gameplay over graphics any day.

A lot of devs are moving to UE5. Even CDPR is moving. And if I had to bet on it I'd say they probably know a little more about UE5 and the future of game development than we do.

Elden Ring does not run that bad now, but for awhile it was kind of bad with the optimization. Like now you can run Elden Ring at 120 fps easy but at launch it was hard to get a locked 60 fps and in some areas 60 fps was impossible. So hopefully fromsoft learned to optimize their games better from that.

i generally hate unreal engine games...they mostly look the same. at least they used to, i dont really follow most modern gaming that much. there are some great looking ones if they devs spend enough time stylising the visuals, but i find that most dont bother doing that. to the point where i can look at a screenshot of any game and immediately tell, oh that's a UE game...
also im a big fan of devs writing their own engine. it's a great undertaking and i appreciate that effort. it's something that's theirs and not some third party thing they licence. though obvs a lot of engines have components that are third party like havok and bink and stuff
engines like unity and unreal are made for general purpose (though obvs unreal engine has its roots in FPS genre). there is a place for specialised engines for certain games from certain devs. the expertise of engine development is to be cherised
i just hope the trend of increasing uptake of generic engines doesnt end up homogenising game production too much, although that's already a criticism i have of gaming today
kudos to FS for sticking to their guns. obvs they used UE4 for their VR game bc their own engine doesnt support VR. there's no need to ditch their engine if it's well built and provides a workflow they're comfortable with
