by the way i dont think this is fromsoftware's doing so much as it is bandai namco's
If there is a way to screw things up, they will. They have been sabotaging Gundam and Super Robot Wars franchises forever.
They put microtransactions into Armored Core 5, just to shut servers down 2 years after the release.
They sabotaged production and release of Armored Core Verdict Day (it doesn't even have CGI opening/trailer).
They put EAC into ER and disabled regional prices in that game.
There is a way for this publisher to mess up AC6, they will.
From Soft can do nothing with it, they're just the working horse.
Beside of that, forcing consumers into fully operational online only working products, is also a kind of DRM. Beginning with authentication and usage control, account data and token, storing and matching on third party servers, involved third party systems and data-pipeline (Epic Games), e.g.
It's worth remembering what Steam is all about. It's definitely not a friendly gaming platform for own amusement. Even if Valve Corporation likes to put it differently.
Steam is DRM, FYI.
Steam doesn't demand kernel-level access to your machine, which would allow a bug, exploit, or intentionally written code to do basically whatever it wants to or with your hardware without your knowledge or consent.
I think the main thing is just that steam with it having so many titles, and especially sales so often, combined with their refund policies, means that there just isn't a need to pirate games 'to make sure the dang thing even works' anymore.
Agreed. Not to mention, the fact that you can reinstall games you've purchased that are no longer available on the store is huge. You don't need to store or keep track of an install disc or executable, you can just do it from within your Steam library by default.
