Some Armored Core purists would claim "it's far from AC & a bad game", but it got the customization & mission-based progression right...even if it's far less expansive & simpler than most Armored Core games.
I'd suggest it if you can grab it on a sale if you're not sure if you'd like it or not, but you will get a lot of the general vibes of the AC franchise from it and it is a good time in general if you're a mech fan.
"its not a bad game" thats my take on it but there's a LOT OF ANNOYING mechanics in the game I HATE RNG OK PLEASE DONT GIVE ME RNG BASED LOOTS DROPS OK?
That's what stopped me from trying out the game. They revamped the mechanics of AC after PS2.
Also I loved turning my character into cyborg.
Dark SASI is more similar to Dark Souls than this garbage to Armored Core
IIRC DxM is made by people who left FromSoft because they got tired of waiting to make another AC game.
It plays just like AC, anyone who says differently just hasnt played enough AC games to see how many times they have changed how the mechs move and introduction of new mechanics.
Things are changed and added or removed only to be added again over and over throughout the series, there is no set style for AC, just like theres no single story line.
What makes AC AC aside from always having the same setting, is that the gameplay is centred around prorotype real robot style mechs rather than mass produced style like in gundam or super robots, so youre always cleaving through trash enemies but you dont feel carried by your mech too much and it carries along a feeling of being a bit more grounded.
The pilot mechanics of DxM are unique and probably not something to expect to see in AC6, but aside from that, as people have said, its a bit dumbed down, little simpler, smaller scale version of AC, pretty similar to playing AC4.
Even the story in DxM is exactly how AC stories normally are told lol.
...That said DxMs plot is kind of...all over the place? Things just kind of happen and you're along for the ride, which yeah, is AC in a nutshell.
Didnt your support pilot a mech at some point in AC4A though? She got into White Glint IIRC.
But overall I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just...I can't remember that many actual named characters from my time playing AC games.
Zinaida only sticks out because $&#^ that boss fight...everyone else is kind of a blur at this point.
Also, if you can't stand constant cheesy dialog the disrupts the flow of gameplay with unnecessary cutscenes, steer clear because DxM is jam packed with it. The characters are so bad it's unbelievable.
