The game does not fit the screen properly. I cannot see my ship, just the shots

Before a wave starts you can shoot, giving you an advantage in for example purist mode, I count at least 3 kills before the wave actually starts to be possible. And after you lose you can still shoot at the aliens, which imo seems strange.
