The all time peak on steam was 1587 players with a 1180 24 hour peak. Compare that to Master Duel's 24001 24 hour peak and 262333 all time peak and Dear Days has a very small playerbase. Also worth noting that Master Duel has cross play across all platforms it is on, meaning its actual playerbase is larger than its steam charts; so even as it loses players on Steam, it still is going to maintain a player count in the tens of thousands for quite sometime.
The absurd price has definitely hurt the sales of the game. This is furthered by the fact that Vanguard is simply not as well known as YGO and lacks the same nostalgia factor.
Master Duel has a lot of things going for it other than being f2p. Konami has given confirmation of indefinite support and updates for Master Duel and its access to crossplay is a massive boon to its playerbase count.
And that is a white knight response that shows you cannot look at things objectively. For example, you claim everyone uses meta, but chances are that you are either lumping in non-meta decks with meta because they still greatly overpowered your deck or you are only remembering the meta decks. You also claim it has nothing going for it, but Master Dusk has crossplay across all of its platforms, greatly increasing its actual playerbase. Furthermore, it has confirmed indefinite support from Konami, as it is meant to be a full competitive medium that runs in conjunction with the tcg/ocg.
Sounds like selective memory or you are counting decks that are rogue as meta. Also let's be real; that is not unique to Master Duel; people playing meta is trading card games in general.
Actually not anymore because Legacy of the Duelist is an old game, unless you want to compre all time peak then Legacy of the Duelist actually wins out with 1610 vs 1567.
Fact is, cross play would have been a huge boon to player count (as would a reasonable price tag).
