As I typically do with RTS games, I decided to jump into a skirmish first to see what was what, as I find that typically in campaigns, you start out only being able to build 10% of the buildings/units and in scenarios, you are either massively gimped, or have a timer on some specific task to complete (which I dislike).

For my first match, I chose easy difficulty and did a 4v4 with the AI.

First things I noticed, outside of the fact that the game is definitely an RTS and not a city-builder a la Banished, are that the graphics and animations are fluid and pleasing to the eye. The same can be said to the soundtrack, although I can't say that it was all too memorable.

Then onto actual gameplay:
You get given, or can pick, a Clan, which each have a special gameplay benefit or special mechanic. In my skirmish I was given the Wolf Clan, although I don't remember seeing a pop-up telling me what that clan was good at. According to the Wiki though, it's more of a military-focused Clan.

You then start in a zone with minimal villagers and that zone can only take a tiny number of buildings, so the idea is to constantly take over new areas to allow clan expansion. Even if you start on a fairly large field or coastline, you will, at most, be able to put 5 buildings (leaving tons of empty space), a couple of which will need to be houses and 1 will have to be a military building, as otherwise, you will lose villagers to aggressive fauna like wolves when trying to expand.
Houses, much like in Age of Empires, increase population cap and here allow you to generate villagers through the Town Hall; There is no other way (unless your clan has a special mechanic) to get villagers.

Villagers are everything here as well. You don't just recruit units with resources like most other RTS, here villagers are turned into whatever unit you want, and, from what I can tell, you cannot "demote" a unit from whatever it becomes, back down to a villager. You can however, re-assign them to other production buildings to then go gather that resource instead.

That is basically the entirety of gameplay, boiled down to what it amounts to:
Create a couple of houses, a lumberyard and a basic military building, while maybe leaving 1-2 villagers gathering food (or make a fishing hut/hunting hut if you're allowed), generate more villagers, take over neighbouring zones, build more houses, get more villagers - rinse and repeat while creating the other buildings for resource gathering and military might.

This might sound novel and fun, but realistically, you will be sat around waiting for villagers to spawn in, in order to do basically anything.
There's also the fact that the size of your Warband (military) is dependant on how many military buildings you have and their upgrade state. With only 1 of each building, my Warband size was 6 and if they got wiped out, I'd then have to turn 6 villagers into my new Warband and have to wait a few minutes to repopulate, all while losing resource gatherers.

Speaking of resources, you have Happiness, Food, Wood, Krowns, Stone, Iron and Gems. Happiness is easy as you just need to build a couple of breweries and host a feast when you can afford it. Food is gathered passively in small amounts by idle villagers, or you can make fishing huts/hunting huts to increase efficiency (and food silos). Wood is done by lumberyards and the last easy one is Krowns (gold/money), which is made by creating trade routes with AI.
Stone, Iron and Gems are far more tedious, as the resource piles on the map only have a sparse amount of resource in them, so you will constantly be moving your miners and destroying mines. Provided you have enough AI on the map, it's probably easier to just get these from the marketplace.

A brief mention can be made to the fact that during winter season, you will use more food and your military is less effective. Personally, I didn't even notice a difference with this mechanic, but maybe it's harsher in harder difficulties, or with other clans.

Ultimately, I feel as though I experienced the majority of the gameplay in my 1.5 hours and although the devs tried to change up the RTS formula, it just feels a bit half-baked compared to a typical RTS (C&C, AoE, EE). I might try-out a couple more clans just to see if they are majorly different, or I might try and see if the campaign is decent, but campaigns and scenarios are 1-and-done for me, which then just leaves skirmishes (as I'm not touching multi-player).

A note must also be made in regards to the fact that all new clans are essentially £4 a pop DLC packages, with their now being more £ worth of DLC than the base-game costs.

As this is still fairly preliminary, I'll come back once I've played some more and update it, but right now, it's not recommended from me, for the price and what you get.

Eu já ouvi falar de inteligência artificial, mas esse jogo me ensinou sobre estupidez natural. Pior IA que já vi no gênero.
