Unless the devs decide to add more secs and allow more branching story lines, the swords will always be favored by default.
Fists are supposedly best at 1 v 1, but I legit didn't find it out-damaging other weapon types nor does it provide a speed bonus (as you would expect).
Sabre is generous with its AOE attacks that I find myself hard to replace it especially as mob fights get more numerous.
Fist weapons really suck, i mean they really are bad, none of the accompanying martials arts really have great AoE, besides the yang finger and thats just a straight line.
Sabers are pretty great, you get hp drain as well as strong AoE with it.
Swords are good because they have arguably the best AoE but they're ironically more glass cannony than Sabers
Fists do less damage than hidden weapons, and without the range.
I don't believe the status debuffs work on some of the fist skills, or certainly not what the tool tab says.
EDIT: Hey! I got confirmation from Devs. They do. I must of screwed up my test somehow.
Sword is simply best supported. Its the primary weapon of the Sect you join so naturally your get the easiest skill progression there. While Wudong offers Fist and Saber alternatives, they are just a bit easier to receive than basically gunning for another Sect's Arts altogether.
Tiger Roving fist is a huge damage starting move and theres a couple more skills from the Shaolin that make fists very useful.
They have less AoE but in the harder fights being able to focus kill a single enemy is really worthwhile. Ive made sure my companion set up has different weapons (Fists, Sabres, Swords, Poles, Hidden weps) and while sabres and swords have the most versatility, fists end up being the strongest.
However, it utterly sucks early and mid-game, so plan accordingly if you want to use it.
As ppl have said, the game is heavily biased towards sword (number of moves and rate of acquisition), so yeah, that's the safest bet.
Prajna Vajrapani Palm (Shaolin) is a unique AoE move that gives the same effect and also inflicts Grevious wounds.
So usually before the enemy uses their unique move you want to use one of these and take no damage.
I haven't really found any amazing normal or special moves yet. But you are also super tanky with things like Wind and Cloud Method, Golden Bell Cocoon and Tai Chi Marvel Force.
The best meridians to get early seem to be the one that gives you a 15% chance to get another turn and 15% chance to restore 200 Qi on crit. Sabers seem pretty busted with this because their crit rate is nuts and you can frequently get multiple turns in a row.
What's the name of the cultivation method I'm playing hidden weapons and would love to check it out.
but in essence.
fist is mostly for one to one
sword is best for one to one or line attacks from the sides of mass battles.
sabre is best for front line brake though moves, or attacking diagonally
pole-arm are best for front line or being surrounded.
hidden weapon is best for attacks of opportunity's. so keep your distance.
each style offer a different battle field feel.
In normal runs, i use fist and let me companion do the farming.
For sparring, I use shaolin fist for both.
Once you are strong enough to clear the elder's from Shaolin, you can use any weapon type or skill to play through the storyline.
PS: I grind a lot
