Finished the story and a lot of questions [Mega Spoilers]
There will be a lot of spoilers here and I won't bother to tag them. So if you haven't finished the game it's on you.

So after finishing the game, I haven't noticed where any of my choices in all of the main quest led to nor if it did matter. It felt like most of them was just so I can gain affection with a certain character and the story is just set. So spoil me on how you actually achieve the different endings if these choices are of no consequence or do you get endings based on side quests.

How does romance work? I ended the game with no romance. Is this an affection thing and does it affect the main story at all? For reference I got the ending where it moqi got to be sect leader and I just wandered off into the outer lands.

Also the story itself is disappointing. I'm pretty sure the MC should have been Mowen. He has an actual backstory and motivations to his action. Yuwen felt like a tiny bug just being swept away with how the main quest ALWAYS just tell the MC what to do. He always just gets tagged along and never thinks for himself. He never stopped to think about why it's important to stop the cult, or after learning what happened to tianshan, stop to think that the righteous sects are indeed hypocritical and deserve to be wiped out, etc. His backstory isn't even explored, it's just his uncle and nothing else. He joined wudang purely because he got saved, never stopped to think about other sects or anything. His goal is just given to him, it's not something he aims for.

If Mowen was the MC instead you could have put a decision in the story to whether wipe out the hypocrites, or spare them and kill your father, or just forgive them all, etc. MC never got developed and always got swept by the story and all the things he does in the story is because someone told him to do that. Extremely, extremely disappointing. I actually felt more sympathy towards Mowen and wanted to just join him in wiping out everyone but that was of course never an option.

So how do the endings actually work? Do side quests shed more story on MC or does it just develop companions? Is there even romance? Are endings tied to certain side quests? And do the choices in the main quests even actually matter? If so, how much story do these endings change? Because if it just changes like the last 5% of the main story then it is pretty bad for a game that encourages replayability.

Might be because I soloed everything and the final boss
I have finished the game just now with a bit of a rushing and external help to ease the grind. But I'll likely replay it once a few more updates are added... and/or some walk-through are added, because of some obsession to eventually get everything done completely.

From what I can find so far based on my limited Chinese understanding, there are multiple endings... but the endings only involve the main story characters and their affection with the MC.

Now for my own view...

The affection system is difficult/not intuitive and raising those points are a huge hassle (not to mention the amount of sparring). The main story characters' affections can only be raised via interaction events (no gifts) and not all interaction events are clear and easily found (thus making a grindy game even more time-consuming).

IMO some of the side characters could have gotten more time or state their opinions when MC takes on main quests and side quests (and I feel some companions are incomplete or have incomplete story lines).

As for the contents, I felt the there should have been options to join other cults/sects other than the default wu-tang sect given the open world map and competing factions.

But this is/was the first game release for a small studio, so consider me impressed given what they are working with (there are no voices acting in this game) and have created.

Off-topic, if these guys are working with Unity, well, I hope that mess gets sorted out so they don't get F***ed over. The new fee scheme will really put low-priced games away forever.

Yeah I don't mean to say it's a bad game. In fact the main story alone is more than 20 hrs and the gameplay is VERY GOOD. It's just that the MC is so underwhelming story wise since he just gets dragged around like a side character.

Also game is in UE, what do you mean Unity?

I wasn't sure what the game was built on (since I'm accustomed to seeing full 3D games in UE. If you follow Unity's updated fees structure, it made me quite concerned for people building games with Unity. Anyway, I'll remove that and stop because it is off-topic.
