Not to be mean, it's just these characters are specific people in the story. It'd be like replacing Wei Shi Lindon with someone who wasn't himself. It just wouldn't be right. There are games where character customization is appropriate. This just isn't one of them.
skins (=$$) and customization(=player choice)
Not to be mean but... wtf are you talking about? Specific? Everything about this game screams customization, except for the visual aspect. Specially when it comes to the main character.
You choose party members and can CUSTOMIZE their build
You CUSTOMIZE/choose weapons and martial arts styles
You CUSTOMIZE a main character build,
You can CUSTOMIZE/ choose side quest
There are dialog options to choose.
When there is so much player choice and build customization in a single player open-world game. How can another layer of customization and player choice be seen as inappropriate? My game won't interfere with your game. my Yuwen Yi and your Yuwen Yi probably play and fight 100% different. Why can't they look different too?
And the main character got on one of the worst outfits out of all the unique characters, Devs done Yuwen Yi dirty with the outfit...
Everyone says that (This just isn't one of them (games that can have character customization)), but it's just a matter of personal opinion, really. You can have a standard character and who don't like can play with that, but people that like customization can customize their character.
Actually it is a good idea. Remember Mass Effect. The hero is John Shephard. But you can change everything of him or her to be everything. Yet, he's still John Shephard.
With Yuwen Yi, He can to be customized with anything, but still Yuwen Yi. You must also remember Tale of Wuxia, where the main character is Dongfang Weiming. You can customized him, but he still Dongfang Weiming, although you can name him with anything you like.
That would need a great deal of change to the game. Including replace the main story of the game. I think for our MC to be able to join different faction can only be happen if the DEV decided to make Wandering Sword 2.
I think it will be more realistic for a DLC if we can play as different character for some time. Like in Kingdom of Deliverance where you can play as the girlfriend for a bit in the game to follow the story of her life.
For example, we can play as Xiao Tong in her time after she's kidnapped by Nanjiang people. Or to be Du Zui and his story long before the story begin (from he was a saber warrior until he become a Shaolin Monk. Or we can play as Yaoji with her side of the story and her loyal team.
Or we can have a new character from Tianjian sect, so the sect can be more useful than the current game.
This. The character can be unique, have a story and background whatever, but players (the people who actually *play* the game to have *fun*) should be able to play as they want, let the character have a standard appearance and people who like that way can play that way.
This game is great (I already said that in another topic) but it lacks the one thing that makes me put my money on it, and it is having *any* kind of personal attachment. I really can't get into games where I can't get myself in.
If this game gets an DLC with customizable character it would be great and I would be the first one to buy the game *and* the DLC. Also a sandbox DLC where we can choose our sect and just do events and other stuff would be cool (I really like this kind of content, but I know it's not for everyone)
Currently, there are many incomplete plot threads (Ye Fei, Huo Changqing, Di Zui and Karma) and areas (Tianjian Sect, the Villain Valley, Nan Jiang/Pili Sect) that simply feels barren.
Did they run outta money? Or simply out of time (due to publisher deadline and pressure)?
Due to some "crunch" from the above (purely my speculation), the dev team felt a need to have one sensible complete linear story and ship the game.
And yeah personally, I'm still a tad miffed we don't see a conclusion for each of the recruited companion post-game and not having a NG+ option to save the grind.
there are 2 locations not implemented in game. space for a few more implanted places. location such as the flower meadow as well that can be used as new locations. or new factions and so new content. such as a super curved sword school in the bad lands for you to lean new sabre based skills.
or the ability to use or requite a gun powered weapons stuff.
or a new story arc where the hero got to save sister and never enters the sect he joins, but joins his sister sect.
or a story about hero finding his farther legacy, then building on that while saving his sister.
this stuff with new skill to learn and play with are what i fund most fun, so what i would spend cash on.
skin.. not so much, unless i feel the need to put a tip in the tip jar and the game Dose deserve a tip jar.
He changes between the Wudang Robes and his traveling outfit a few times in the story. Letting players pick which doesn't seem like a big ask, just have him in his Wudang Robes for cutscenes he should be wearing them.
Likewise, expanding wardrobe options would be great. Always felt weird that Yuwen Yi remained in the robe he was wearing when he just joined, despite climbing the ranks of the Sect over the game. No new robes felt weird. Mowen had some nice formal looking robes, Moqi got red robes (which seems odd since everyone else wears blue), etc...
But more than anything, I'd like to see outfits from other Sects become available, maybe after defeating the Sect Masters in a spar or something. You fight wish fists and wish you looked more like a Shaolin monk? You fight with Polearms and think it looks better with Beggar's Sect's clothes? You fight with Sabers and think Zuanhou rocks the look for it? You like Hidden Weapons but it looks strange in Wudang robes?
As far as customizing Yi directly, I wouldn't mind being able to pick a hairstyle. I don't think you need more than that.
