Not sure how related this is to your specific convo, but the Steam Cloud definitely came in handy for me when I had to do an unexpected computer replacement. Now I have a better gaming laptop with more storage space just in time for the holidays.
The short of it other than the aforementioned exclusivity is that the game's original plot was generic to hell and back. It doesn't do much and accomplishes nothing other than what's been done before and better in previous games. Level scaling was also ass and it's nice that it's at least gone for damage. I'm probably a bit biased since the new story puts law on such a high pedestal but this is more preferable over having the game stick doublespeak anti-diversity concepts in its secret neutral ending (which by extension of being tucked away/harder to get people are more likely to liken it to being the "true" ending) by throwing every other ideology or mythology down the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's genuinely so ass to the point where SMTIV and IVA somehow managed to handle this trashy concept better when tackling it and those games still have their own sense of issues when it comes to writing in comparison to even older titles. It's really fascinating since people try to stress that this series is "deep" or "meaningful" when stuff like this is constantly popping up which clearly showcases the opposite.
So anyways, it's like I HAVE PLAYED THESE GAMES BEFORE. ♥♥♥♥.
You know how Atlus devs teased some "big announcements" for the year of 2025? I'm kind of hoping that one of those is a DLC expansion pack that adds a new story route and a bucket-load of new demons to fuse. To make up for the expanded roster, maybe they could add a miracle "Divine Garrison X" that could double your demon stock from 24 to 48 so that you could try out some of these new demons.
Either that, or a Shin Megami Tensei VI title where you could battle other players in online matches in addition to the regular main singleplayer storyline.
I think we all know this will never happen, but it would be nice to have a massive bulk of new demons, some are mentioned directly in game like Hagen (really peeved about this one since he's my all time favorite) and Yama. SMT6 is seven billion years away while we're at it and they wouldn't just do it for online features. The last and really only main installment that did this was SMTIV's initial draftings which were basically all nearly thrown out later in development save for streetpass gimmicks. Dx2 does have an attempt at multiplayer but it's not true multiplayer, you just set up a team for the opponent to fight against rather than actual PVP. Which I guess makes sense, since balancing for true pvp press turn with say some of the broken strats smtvv has would be hell.
Regardless given Atlus's track record of announcements we'll probably see something this month though given how other companies are also possibly announcing stuff this month too (alleged sony state of play along with the obvious big "Pokemon Day" which ofc is a direct/indirect competitor to atlus in the monster catching jrpg market/jrpg market in general). Soul Hackers 2 and EOHD were both February announcements to my knowledge as well to add context. I'd say we'd might be seeing that Raidou Vs Soulless Army HD reveal soon since we know that IS a thing however I'm not sure what else.
The Japanese update their game ONE time and leave it at that. Simple as, classic PC game industry joke. Gotta wait several decades for SMT6 now
