Does it make sense to leave people in the group behind in battle?
They are designated Guests, but at this time I could pump up my demons in place of these Guests.

I'm playing on hard and almost finished with the second area. The human guests are fantastic! Much better by default then the demons you can get. Considering you constantly fuse demons at higher levels, don't worry about building up demons specifically. Just fuse, play, and when your humans don't work for a particular battle, switch them out.

Demons are like disposable tools until they aren't, unless you decide, yeah I'm gonna keep someone like for example Idun around forever, they're just another tool to use. The diversity and lack of easily exploitable weaknesses makes the human guest characters pretty decent for at least their first few appearances.

Guest characters anchor to your protagonist's level when they rejoin at the start of each chapter. Also, you can use the statues to level them up. There really isn't any long-term harm to them falling behind.

idun gets replaced later on in creation though. a better example might be alice whose dark potential, dark immunity and special dark attack Die For Me! are so insane that normally she's found at like level 60-70+ in the other games but is available so early on and easily scales that high espec with her magic stat scaling. Just give her resist(or higher) light and she's incredibly good even in endgame.

Use them or don't, this is not a game in which this really matters because you'll generally always fuse/recruit stronger demons anyways. With certain miracle skills your benched demons also get way more exp so yeah ... just treat them as demons and go for whatever you need in the moment (stats/resistances/spells).

Humans can use items which is pretty insane. Iirc demons can use items later on, and at that point, it's probably better to just use demons.

actually Idun is replaced even earlier.

her innate also makes it so that this ability is heightened even further, and her spec ability with someone else in your party can make it usable full power anytime. actually kinda crazy, might even be better than tao? i don't recall if tao had the 2nd part of this ability (not the raise all stat but other bit)

ngl; I dumped Tao in my stock for some 90% of the game until *that* moment and kept Yoko in my team for about 90% of the game until she dumped my sorry behind because *reasons*... Yoko excluded, the ONLY thing the guest characters are good for early game is an extra way to use items (until you unlock that miracle for your demons; then all bets are off). The toolkit those guests have just zuck so much... I can fuse my demons to have anti-elemental abilities, fuse my main to be viable in just about every fight... but those guests? yikes... Tao gets Hama/Mahama/Mahamon as an attack, nothing else and that attack isn't just expensive to use but it's also pretty much useless to get press turns with because everything that is weak to it is likely to die (the only real reason to use Ma-Hama/Ma-Mudo spells) OR too expensive for the amount of damage it dishes out; which is the worst of both worlds
