How do I switch a demon guide? I'm running with Amanazoku but want to run with mermaid

There is no mermaid guide. You will find other guides later in the game. Switching by talking to them

You'll be able to switch guides once Amanozako leaves.

There is one after you complete her quest twice and then find her beside the lake.

huh? for real. just talked to her. didn't remember her in the vanilla version. only had the memory of the pixie, the little dragon, and amanazako.

They added new navigators in VV.
The notable ones are Mermaid and Alice.

Just their dialogue. Mermaid also sings while you travel. But they all function the same, so you can just pick who you like.

From a quick search (first time playing this one myself) - there was in the base game; first one was neutral results, but each other one was focused on something (brackets being something like battles, stat buff items, combat items, other)

The new ones so far don't have any info I could find, as I also was thinking of swapping to Mermaid, but then I got another one before leaving Da'at the first time, so wasn't sure they had missions tied to them (as the first one seems to - and reminded me of Fairy from Nocturne that would have a special thing at the end if you kept her).

I also found those infos, but for the base game so not sure if they're still valid.
Also for the mermaid as a first impression I'd say she finds more battles, not sure if it's just rng.
