It's nothing like either of those games, so no. Persona 5 took SMT's negotiation mechanic but that's where the similarities end. SMT focuses on combat, side content and collecting demons above all else. It has the best of those three games you mentioned so I prefer it over the boring life sim/time gated stuff in those other two series.
Metaphor kinda streamlined the boring stuff but it's still there and required to get new abilities. Also the animations and artstyle in this game are great I don't know what you mean about that. And don't get me wrong, I like Persona but there's tons of boring segments to deal with for literally the entire game.
As for art style, Persona definitely isn't unique; they're generic anime characters. And I'm not saying that in a negative sense, just pointing out what it is. Metaphor though has a pretty unique art style
Now, if we're talking art direction with the world, Persona 5's dungeons are pretty cool. I finished the game and can't say I hated any of em. As for metaphor, nothing stands out much by comparison to Persona's dungeons. The enemies in Metaphor though are pretty wild. On the flipside, I love SMT's post apocalypse ruined cityscape theme it has going for the game.
All that to say I don't think one is inferior to the other, but there's stuff specifically in Persona & Metaphor that I do find really boring regardless of that. I play all of them but I prefer this game because it's the most gameplay focused with the highest replay value.
while your beloved persona: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persona_(series)
was first release 1996 (Revelations: Persona), the latest one is Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload is remake game from Persona 3 FES
and your fav metaphor is newborn child in 2024, Atlus attempt to make 3rd pillar game, and they succeeded with this one, unlike Soul Hackers 2
Yeah when i see these clown farmers i just block and move on. no need to engage
ill block u but ik ull keep being in my profile and posts u cant help it
Kinda hard to advertise this game on television without creating controversy, considering they're using actual gods and myths. So like, they rely soley on rumors and gossip lol.
They made persona- which was much more popular in the west and others, which in turn helped this game out more.. But they still used controversial monsters and... (Shooting yourself in the head? lmfao)
(Shin megami is for the esoteric spirituality nutcases, persona is for the emo introverts)
I like to think they made metaphor more steamlined, so that other people will will look up the other games once they beat it, lol.
Shin megami has a niche market, but they're also like, the only ones who managed to make a "darksouls" difficulty JRPG
If you aren't a die-hard JRPG fan, you won't know anything about this game.
You can definitely tell the quality of the story dropped~but at the same time; cramming everything into a switch game was a feat in itself
If you've played the first few games, you'd REALLY see just how much they've managed to like, create a truly special atmosphere~ Even made entirely new games with the same mechanics
Shin megami was slightly dumbed down, unfortunately; but it still has the roots of being the true OG when it comes to creature collecting + JRPG's
Played and beat every final fantasy game, dragon quest, ect- and they still haven't topped the amount of love I personally have for this game
Don't get me wrong, I love persona too~ But it never offered anything outside of a innocent "dating sim" mixed with shin megami style cryptic choices
Not only does the entire series entertain you, it offers genuine hypothetical situations involving morality-that really makes you think twice on ones own character in real life. (I'm just rambling at this point lol)
the weeb calendar simulator highschool dating anime games are inferior sorry
