Is the story any good?

i am a person of story>gameplay, always was, thats why i love jrps, is the story good at least? i saw some reviews that said the story was bad, others said it was actually good...

the setting of the game is super appealing to me, but i dont wanna spend money on something that has a bad story, soul hackers 2 is a good example, lot of people say that the story is actually good and gameplay gets stale after a while, how bout this game?

can u guys give me ur opinions?

persona always has a good story but the downtime between fights is sometimes too big but since im a story guy i dont get bored, but if the story is at least decent i can still go on playing, gonna watch more reviews, the game here in brazil is so expensive, its literally 1/4 of a monthly income here, so u really need to be sure ur gonna like what u bought

The new scenario (CoV) for this updated release starts off decently but falls apart past the middle point, which is the case with the original scenario (CoC) as well. They try to rectify this by adding optional dialogues and more interactions with demons and human characters in the demon haunt (think of it as your base) but I cannot say the story is good.

so im probably gonna wait for a sale then. gonna get trails/daybreak, it looks like it has a really good story, and i played only cold steel one but at the time i was busy as hell, and this looks like a good entry point to star from zero since i dont remember anything from cold steel.

Ah, that's a fine choice. I feel Daybreak manages to avoid many pitfalls of past trails games' stories. Also, it's been two years since daybreak 2 came out (and its localization is coming in 2025) and the final game in the calvard arc is coming out in two months in Asian countries so you won't have to wait long at all if you want to figure out what happens next in that arc.

The new story in Canon of Vengeance is very good in my opinion. I am really enjoying the new characters ie Yoko etc, After beating the canon of vengeance Yoko is my favorite. I am doing a second playthrough of vengeance. Canon of Vengeance is just much better than the Canon of Creation imo. Canon of Vengeance adds much more to the story that is not shown in Canon of Creation.

SMT was never about the story, so if you're looking for that, you won't find it here, or in any of them, to be honest. That being said, the story in Canon of Vengeance has improved quite a bit compared to the OG.

I think the only good thing about Soul Hackers 2 are the characters, especially the MC, the gameplay is meh and the dungeons are the same over and over again. SMT V on the other hand has the best gameplay I've seen in a Megaten, and although the story is nothing special I think it's good enough to keep you hooked. If you're not a big fan of these games I'd just wait, they tend to go on sale pretty quickly.

Shin Megami Tensei Vengeance has a story and it is pretty good imo. Also every shin megami tensei has a story to it even if you don't think it is good or not. While you may not think it has a story or not others will say this game and others has a story.

SMT 5's story was already somewhat weak, and I can't say that it feels like it improved too much when doing Law Vengeance. They tried to do a similar storytelling path to SMT 4 with having multiple characters sort of banter about their views on the situation, but it comes a lot more down to 'Jerk vs Idealist' rather than 'both sides have a point/could be bad/someone is getting hurt no matter what' in V.

Then again 4 started to flop a bit near the end after a certain point anyway so eh. At least the battle system is probably the best it's ever been and having a Reverse Compendium is fantastic for routing fusion chains for the most part. Not to mention Essences instead of Demon Whispers means you can boost your favorite demons with a new trick after the fact rather than have to go the long way and fuse a specific skill way back down the line.

There is a story in Shin Megami Tensei V and Vengeance. It is told to you through the npc's and it doesn't hold you by the hand so you can automatically understand the story. You talk to the npc's/you listen to the npc's and you will see what the story is for Creation and Vengeance.

As I said for me I really enjoy the story and I don't listen to those who says that there is no story in this game when that is not true. There is a story in this game and the story is really good imo.

I haven't made it to the Vengeance route yet, but the original story isn't all that bad so far. Sure the cutscenes are sparse and kind of disjointed, which is because of the game's open world nature, but the key plot beats have been coherent up to the point that I have played. Furthermore, there's plenty of background lore and information stated by NPCs that adds more depth to the ongoing struggle and the Netherworld itself. The game pretty much reminds me of FromSoft's Souls franchise in that regard.

Let's be honest, with the exception of II, SJ and IV, the mainline games have never been about the story and imo it's for the better. DDS Megami Tensei 1 and Shin Megami Tensei IF.... literally have no story and Megami Tensei 2, SMT 1, 3 and 5 don't fare any better. Canon of Vengeance is slightly better but compared to those games i've mentioned, it falls short for me.
