What other ways of counterplay is there against Pierce Effects aside from Buff/Debuff and Guarding?

Bowl of Hygieia + High Heal Pleroma + Heal move of choice.

Use Life Spring + Great Life Spring to Buff health of your demons / MC.

or just Seal / Sleep / Mirage / Confuse / Charm the enemy or boss if it's possible.

Maria and Artemis have Pierce immunity innate as long as you have 2 def stat.

Demi fiend innate most likely ignores it, I haven't tried this so can't say much.

Kannabi Veil mc only 25% damage reduction 1 turn
Shield of God 90% damage reduction 1 turn
Danu innate weakens attacks as long as they don't hit your weakness. requires 2 def. I haven't tried this.
Endure/Enduring Soul obvious
if you don't mind sacrificing demon, put fierce roar to take attacks. Use Revival Chant (mc only) to revive and put demon into party rinse & repeat, tedious but it works.

If you have enough Vit, you can simply shrug it off.

Depends on how late you are in the game. Defending is the best option outside a few demons that have inates that protect them from pierce under certain conditions. Later on in the Vengeance route you get a new aogami skill I believe is called waning eclipse. It allows you to dodge one attack no matter what, even piercing, and even uber attacks from demi fiend. It only effects the MC though.
