I agree , the BGM is likely one of the best in the SMT universe , on par with the Digital Devil Saga series.

However , everything else is pretty much sub-par to previous SMT games . Even the demon designs , the writings , the " stories " are downgrades.

I haven't played the other games really but damn I think this game is amazing (I have played all the Persona games), though I am sure it'll drag at spots.

It looks absolutely amazing and love demon designs. 4k/60fps is a totally different experience than 450p/20fps on Switch.

All good. but Dagda's track sounded terrible to me? when I got into combat with him (one of the DLC quests) it sounded super compressed/low quality in contrast to sakuya whose track sounded great.

I ended up hearing the Masakado battle theme on Youtube music when listening to other tracks from SMT games and have had that one on repeat. Can't wait to finally battle him.
I have to say the post mentioning demon designs being sub-par to the rest of the series is tripping. They must of forgot, or never played SMT IV, and it's mishmash of assets and designs that wouldn't of even looked suitable as Pokemons rejected designs.

I'll have to wonder if it's because Angels went back to their original design.

It's really not that impressive, while generally pleasant the music lacks the ability to evoke emotion or strong feelings of any sort. None of the music in this game I would ever go back to or use as a reference for the musicians I work with.

I haven’t heard much of the new ost, the og ost was really good but is it near the levels of Megami Tensei 2, Persona 1 (PSX) or Devil Summoner (Saturn)? not even close but I do like that one of the boss battle themes is a remix of Fall N Gods and Omega from Megami Tensei 2, hell the abscess battle theme is a literal remix of Valhalla from Megami Tensei 1 (more preference towards the kyuyakuu version)

Hell, I didn't notice this before. But yes, you are right. Great catch.

Megami Tensei has a history of remixing older songs. Valhalla in particular has been remixed from the games I’ve played about 4-5 times, SMT 1 Boss, Devil Survivor 2 attack, Devil Summoner 2D Field, and finally SMT V Abscess. Also Majin (Fiend) in this game, 3, 4 and IF (also1-2) is a remix of Memory Recovery from Shin Megami Tensei 2, particularly the SFAM ver not the PSX ver, which is also a remix of terminal from SMT 1. Crazy how they made a battle theme out of a name selection theme.

Still hate the *DUNG DUNG* song that plays in the second area's opening part. That gets annoying quickly.

I'm still pretty early in (On the way to Tokyo Tower), but so far the music seems very MEH compared to the past games. I guess it is because we are missing Meguro Shoji as the composer? I had to stop and look up why it didn't sound like previous SMT titles thus far and then realised he is no longer working part of the Atlus crew and has gone freelance. :<

That is going to be hard to get used to. Hoping the music picks up beyond this point though since people seem to be saying good things? :9

Everyone has their own tastes i guess. That said, the OST is indeed awesome, from that early in the game, the Diet building area's track is great, i love it and it only got better from then on

Wrong. I'd pick kozuka's tracks over your friends anyday.

Finished the game yesterday, the ost slaps. Again is it near the levels of Megami Tensei 2, Megami Ibunroku Persona, and SMT: Devil Summoner? (Saturn) no but it is a definite A tier for me. Da'at-Kabukicho and Battle-Primordial Goddess are the highlights, Kozuka Ryota proves time and time again that he is fit for mainline Megami Tensei soundtracks.
