I think the point is that doing ANY of those things will make him significantly easier, not that you need to do ALL.

One will get far in this series just by covering ostensible weaknesses and having one character who can Null their main mode of attack. This game feels easier than older games because it has never been easier to check both boxes. Essences and Dampeners go a long way.

The problem is that the options to hard-null Hydra are pretty limited at that time. Fire Dampeners work wonders, but he can still get lucky with physicals and poison.

Yeah I mean you don’t have to do what I did, hell you can make the fight even easier if you have a demon party with dark might once your buffs are up or have a different party but technically I didn’t have Nekomata in my party, but inugami but my point still stands.

One thing I love about Megami Tensei is the approaches to fights aren't you have to do this one thing or you can’t beat them, as long as you don’t have a demon that’s weak to the element the boss casts you are good.

Hydra is definitely tough on hard mode because of not being able to block fire without a dampener, even though mermaid is useful I didn’t use her because of her weakness to fire and giving the boss extra press turns is death.

Using the dark dampener when he uses toxic breath counters his poison so that’s not an issue, the issue is the second phase when he uses physicals, and once you wear him down you will already use up your fire dampeners so it’s a arms race to see who dies first, I was able to beat him on level 13-14 with the MC remaining and a lucky crit from aramasa.

- Keep debuffs stacked at all time, particularly Tarunda and Rakunda.
- Torrent of Chaos helps immensely. If you enter the battle with a full Magatsuhi gauge, it is possible to use it two times. Which doesn't sound like a big deal, but severe Almighty damage + removing one Press Turn icon, twice, can be a difference between pulling through and dying a horrible death.

That's about it, really. If I've managed to defeat it on Hard while being slightly underleveled (level 14), then surely you can do it too.

you dont even need to be THAT high, i managed to beat hydra on level 12 hard easily.

done at first try on hard easy... just use
sukunda best debuff vs Hydra cuz she has low accu so she will miss a lot turns

coming back again, just started a new hard save and beat hydra at level 10 on Hard. there's one more thing I learned since it took 3 attempts to do at such a low level:[i.imgur.com] If he charged magatsuhi, and he is near the breaking point where his heads will fall off either A: dark dampener & guard/full pass turn or B: IF you have a Phys Dampener, you can knock his heads off and use phys dampener instead. If you do not do this, when his heads fall off he WILL use frenzy instead of toxic breath and all his frenzy attacks will be critical. this wiped me on my 2nd attempt.

Also you probably want 2-3 soma drops.

What canon do you went with? On my switch playthrough of the original release I found the fight to be somewhat hard. On the steam with vengeance canon it was no problem. Mainly use essence fusion to repel fire and use weakness together with the critical magatsuhi skill
