Why Atlus is removing the original SMT V?!
I don't get!

Atlus has the original on the Switch EShop for three years then they announced SMT V coming to other platforms but for some reason, They announced SMT V is gonna to be removed on the EShop in June.

Which means Atlus is pulling a anti-consumer move on their old player base even they purchase & buy it. Which mean new player base who want to try the old version on Switch need to look for other platform to play SMT V in it's original glory.

To prevent confusion mainly. The average person will not know the difference between Vanilla and Vengeance and it'll just lead to confusion and buying the wrong one, etc. Besides Vengeance is everything all in one. There isn't much reason to continue selling two versions of the same game on the same platform.

But Atlus still have the original P4 & Royal Edition at the PSN Store despite they releasing Royal Edition.

PS Royal is an expanded version of P5, the vanilla version was left up for those are interested in it.

The original route of smt V and the new route are 2 separate routes which you choose between both routes at the beginning of smt V vengence. There is no real need to continue listing the vanilla version as that is included in this release.

Vengeance includes the entirety of the old game... so what's the issue exactly? you'll just have the demon innate passives/abilities that weren't present in smt v but otherwise.... I don't think it's anti-consumer at all, the biggest flaw in SMT V was the story and it's been fixed, yet still included and so many more qol improvements like save anywhere that should've been in the main game.

Vengeance is not a free upgrade on Switch lmao.

I have no idea where you got that info from. Switch owners still have to pay full price and we are able to import our final 3 demons from the previous version.

The original version still exists as physical copies out there. Plus Vengeance includes the old campaign, with gameplay improvements, so nothing of much substance is really lost.

The same happened with the original Dragon Quest XI once the expanded version got released the launch version was removed from steam for purchase.

Lol you just reminded me about that. Here's your orchestrated soundtrack and superboss, but we'll be taking your high-res visuals away. At least it was cheaper! Although DQXI still holds up now, whereas if I was Atlus I'd also wanna delist the original V. It's not aged brilliantly.

for ppl who dont know, SMT VV already included the original version and Vengeance version. You can choose at the start of the game, they already said that in atlustube video trailer.

because the original is part of the new

If i was a creator of smt v, i wouldn't want people to play v after vengeance is out, i would feel little ashamed of it as a creator. Your creations always hold love in your heart, but smt v was hurt a lot in development. If they really love smt, they would feel bad giving a worse smt with obvious faults (the story). Atlus is a business, they couldn't just develop the game forever, release was the option even if unfinished. V sold well enough that the devs were allowed to work on it more and cover the elephant in the room, of course you want to hide the old version. For Atlus it's all upsides, cover vanilla V, can't buy V digitally on sale, only more expensive Vengeance.

For people without the money to get vengeance it is sad though, they should be able to play V if they only have enough $ for V.

So which version would you recommend a newcomer play first ?

This happens all the time it's a tried and true tactic for game publishers to make their fans double dip, and as always their superfans of course will, how much you wanna bet 1 month after release it will be one sale at 30% off once all the superfans have already been milked dried?

if i had to guess its for the switch players to not get confused thinking vengance is a dlc or somthin.

anyone who would have wanted the original has bought it by now. and you can still find physical copies if you really REALLY just want the original. otherwise Vengeance is being set up to be a straight upgrade to the original with an entire second campaign to go along with the original, which includes all the original games features and DLC free of charge. unless you just simply want a worse experience. vengeance is going to be a purely better game than the original switch release.
