SMT V Vengeance will give an innate passive/ability to EVERY SINGLE demon in the game, instead of the handful that had it earlier. Remember Mermaid's special ability that was op early game? Every single demon is getting either an active like that or a passive ability which means we have to wait for the game to be out in order to decide this.
I'm definitely planning on getting Idun through my first playthrough(s) once given the chance. I already like her both design-wise and IRL myth lore-wise. There's so many demons I like to choose from that I'm having trouble just deciding on 24.
Fair enough. I expected getting this kind of answer eventually. But at least this thread will be here once the release date comes and more people have had enough time to experiment with VV's take on fusion mechanics. Hopefully this thread would inspire others to make build guides on Steam like this: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJxN5QVxCwGrevn9xKL_FJhZ2XBTnqLVG
So would the signature moves of each demon go in it's own unique slot as opposed to the previous way of said signature move being something you'd get by leveling up like usual? I ask because I wouldn't want to accidentally replace Idun's Golden Apple skill with a less powerful one, for example. Some of the skills my demons got in my current playthrough of Nocturne are a bit all over the place. So having a gameplan for each demon build I go for would be ideal.
The appearance of demons is also a factor I take into account when I decide which demons to recruit/fuse. Not only sexiness but coolness as well.
My Idun and Demeter could deal wind with high pleroma, unique heal, luster candy, debilitate. But Amon just fire damage, buff, debuff.
All my demons at the end had room for repel/drain phys too.
My alilat used both donnum skills, luster candy, debilitate, megidoloan, high almighy, and repel phys.
Knowing when you should min max is key, some demons are best staying in their lane, but most can have 2 or more roles. When you have a whole roster of demons who deal high damage and can buff, debuff or both, most demon can take part in a battle . Oh you need a buffer and debuffer, well thankfully your ishtar does elec damage, buff, and debuff. Make sure you have 2 dekaja and 2 dekunda scattered somewhere in your demons.
Since the formula is to get press turns then buff, you order your party to do just that, then if your buffer or whoever dies, you have many demons with dual roles who can fit in 2 slots.
This sounds a bit complicated, but thanks for your advice. Which demons did you have in your full demon stock of 24 (I assume Idun, Demeter, Amon, Alilat, and Ishtar are five of them) and what where the skills they each had?
Fionn mac Cumhaill is definitely one of my top picks for demons to recruit/fuse once I get to him. What skill build would you recommend for him?
She's one of my top picks as well. I've heard speculation that Konohana Sakuya might be a better healer than Idun, but we won't know that for sure until the game comes out. Plus it probably wouldn't hurt to get an extra specialized healer or two. I pre-ordered the deluxe edition to get the Dagda and Konohana Sakuya DLC so I plan on utilizing those demons as well if/when I get the chance.

I left some out because this was the party of a team before demi fiend on cycle 26 hard.
the roles are basically damage AND buff or debuf. aoe magic for demi fiend's alies. The pierce attacks are for when i need them to deal more damage to demi specifically. Innana is a flexible magic impaled nuke since her skills are high power. Baal uses multiple elements because i use him for several phases of demi fiend. Physical users just deal damage to 1 target, buff or debuff. I hope these teams are enough for you to understand why i say demons can be flexible, but within reason. Odin uses critical aura rocks lmao. I dont use abyssal mask much for demi because i like rolling chaotic will.
When someone dies, i have so many demons that can fill in for many roles, innana can do any basic element, baal can do 3, trumpter 4, 2 dark demons, 2 force, 2 lightning, many fires, many phys, some healers, some special moves sprinkled in. Light is the only one i didn't cover, but i have some demons with light moves and debilitate and luster, like maria or sraosha, but i never have them in my party, i just built them for fun, and the sake of having light if i needed it (I didn't.)
Thanks for the full list. Ever thought about creating demon build guides for VV's Steam Guide section? But yeah, this will definitely come in handy for when I start my playthrough.
a lot of demons have unique skills to encourage this
that said i was gonna get this on PC but am gonna pick it up on switch instead, i want to see how transferring demons from the original goes since we can transfer 3 over. i hope you all enjoy the game!
