Magic Build is very good in early / mid game, and vs trash mobs. They also added ,,-barion'' tier for magic spells + pierce for magic, which means magic build is still viable in late game. Hama and Mudo like in SMT IV Apocalypse did also dmg, and are also usefull in many boss fights. Magic stat also decrease dmg from magic attacks.
Strength build is best in late game, mainly due to Murakumo (best dmg in game), and many good multi-hit attacks. The thing what make STR build really OP in late game is physical skills don't use HP, but MP, and MP is not real problem in the end of the game. You can also try ,,elemental'' build (STR + MAG), and focus on use Dracostrike skills.
Vitality / Tank build is also very good in this game, thanks to many defensive Magatsuhi Skills / passives, and skills like Elemental Block, Taunt, Kanabi Veil, Fierce Roar or Witness Me.
Luck / Status Ailment build is also viable, even with boss fights (you can for example charm Shiva if your luck stat is high enough). It's especially fun with Accursed Poison (Magatsuhi Skill). Focus on Poison in early game. Luck build have also synergy with status ailment offensive skills like Profaned Land, Terror Blade or Javelin Rain, so if you want also did some dmg you can use hybrid build LCK + STR, or LCK + MAG.
Agility / Support build is also good in this game, you can put all points in AGI and with Sukukaja / Sukunda be like ninja. Focus on spaming buffs / debuffs, and healing. But i think VIT build is better in SMT V for support build than AGI, due to nerf AGI and Sukukaja in this game (+2/-2 buffs / debuffs, and also healing is not that strong like in SMT IV - huge nerfs for AGI / support builds).
The most OP builds in mainline SMT:
SMT I - STR + AGI / LCK
SMT II - STR + AGI / LCK
SMT If - STR + AGI / LCK
SMT III Nocturne - STR + VIT
SMT Strange Journey - STR + VIT
SMT IV - MAG + AGI
SMT IV Apocalypse - MAG + AGI
SMT V - all builds are well balanced
GTFO
Str players = stupid and they abuse steroid
it has its ups and downs like the strength build but sounds like a skill issue for sure.
Maybe I got a little spoiled with smt IV magic build being so broken lol.
It's fine, it happens every game. Phys was the best in 3, magic was the best in 4. Magic was best in Devil Survivor because of Holy Dance, Phys was the best in Devil Survivor 2 because of Multi-Hit.
It would just be nice to have a bit more parity between the damage types.
Oh yeah then show me a magic build that can do this:

Fact is your monsters will NEED to have elements to get the extra press turns. You wont have Crit buff every damn turn, and IIRC they said they will address Magatsu Crit in Vengeance. I never understood the people who go full on hyperbolic about this lol.
