I played the demo and i kinda liked it, but it also looked kinda simple. How is the challenge later on?

Am I missing something, or is my Xbox controller/gamepad not supported in this non-VR version? Keyboard/mouse only? That would make me regret the purchase I just made, and along with flight sims like DCS and VTOL-VR, tower-defense is one of my very favorite genres....
