Honestly I think that would've been so funny to do
Hmm okay. I see the disconnect here my friend.
The thing is, never announced that we were shutting down the game!
In the video we recorded and multiple posts we made, we said that we weren't going to do big updates (new characters/arenas/skins) but we were going to continue to do balance updates and season resets (which we did)!
You're right, that sounds like a completely stupid thing to do. If only they announced their updates as loudly as possible, like posting all patch notes onto this section of the Steam forum, or pinging everyone in their Discord server whenever a new patch drops, maybe announce them on Twitter...
who is your main
just curious
It seems the higher ups gave up on this game, but the devs clearly haven't. Otherwise, the game wouldn't be getting updated so often. It's sad what happened to this game. I know the game was already losing popularity before that announcement they made in November of 2023, but that announcement made everything worse. They shouldn't have given up like that. They shouldn't have made that announcement.
My friends and I continued playing the game even after the announcement because we liked the game enough to keep playing, but something we noticed is after that announcement was made, it became SUPER difficult to find a match within a reasonable amount of time in quick play. We tried just playing competitive, but then we ran into an issue where we kept matching with the same team over and over again, which sucked for the times that the team was better than us, which happened a lot cuz we didn't play the game too often due to being busy with school and work, so we were just constantly matching with people who eat, sleep, and breathe this game. That is not fun, so we eventually just completely quit. There's not enough players to have a good balance of new and experienced players cuz all the new players get pushed away by all the people they match with being too much better than them, so a lot of what's left are the experienced players.
I do want to correct you on one thing, though. Technically the updates are not silent, but honestly, I would've completely forgotten about this game if it wasn't for the steam news feed on the top of the library page since that's where the announcements are for these things. Yeah, there's the discord, but I don't think *some people* realize how unlikely it is for the usual gamer to join the discord for a specific game unless there's in-game perks and rewards for joining it, and even then, people can just mute the server so they don't ever get pinged. Back to the steam news thing, though. Every time I see it, I get mad that the announcement video was ever made. I really liked this game, but it was fumbled so hard. I hope the next game doesn't get fumbled this badly. Hopefully, it'll get some more marketing as well. Not just a one and done big content creator event.
This game itself is really good, but there's only so much you can do when it relies heavily on actually having players, since it is an online pvp game. None of the problems I have with the game is with the gameplay. It's a great game managed poorly, in my opinion.
Remember, I'm just sharing my opinion here.
You really hit the nail on the head man. One of my favorite PC games of all time but the marketing and outside gameplay decisions have been very bad. This dev team needs a PR/marketing person/team so badly. THey thought that video was a good idea that it would make people rally around them. I could of told you that would never happen based on past games trying this tactic it always fails and makes everyone abandon the game and not want to invest time/money. They brought in about 7,000 concurrent players with their inititial marketing push back 2 years ago in May. Before the announcment to shut down they held about 10% of that base as a hardcore loyal fanbase. That is not a low retention rate whatsoever for a game especially a game like this. If they got the word out about this game and fixed new player experience this game would blow up. If you bring in 100,000 players you would have 10,000 loyal hardcore fans going off the past stats. This game needs to get a major Moba youtuber to talk about it and try to push a 1.0 release. Also having skin packs in the steam store that you can put on sale to get your game to show up during steam sales would help alot as well. I have never come across this game accidently in steam and I browse the store constantly.
