No ingame chat or comms system ruins this game.

The core gameplay is a lot of fun.
But how am I supposed to pick goalie then watch 2 stupid team mates not play their roles?

Then I switch midgame to forward and keep losing bouts because the guy who thinks hes a goalie sucks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ balls..

A) I'm probably older than you. Also... Nice try flaming a "bed time", when someone's clearly active over 6 hours after the time you claimed (as of now, it's 1:49 AM, and my first message was 1:29 AM).
B) You're literally showing WHY people would turn off chat.
C) It's a high speed game. If you have time to type, you're not playing properly, and are probably the one that needs to be corrected.
D) Most things that you'd need a comms system for, have a much cleaner (and less toxic) system in place. Picks? You can see your teammates pre-picks. You want an item? You can pre-pick it. You want to know what your teammates want? Look at their pre-picks. Need to communicate basic instructions like "let me defend"? There's literally an emote wheel dedicated to that.

You don't need a comms system, because in effect, you already have one. What you want is a way to be toxic... and the game neither has the time nor need for that.
Sorry, but between you proving my point and ignoring the emote wheel/pre-picks, you perfectly illustrated why it'd be worthless.

We don't need a chat to write, but quick chat options would be good. Also, it's not that this game needs much tactics to talk about, this is not a fps, nor is it league of legends. If you let your goalie do the work, and vice versa. Spread out a bit, then i don't see much what you want to discuss in this game.

I know there is, spread out, pass, let me defend etc is not enough. We need something more direct, stay forward, sorry, good game, those kind of commands. Those that rocket league have.

I think the number of people who get chat banned in Rocket League show that any "fluff" like sorry or good game is just going to be used for toxicity. While I do agree that the 5 should be different (spread out and let me defend are basically the same, given how small maps are) just having 5 is more than enough. Maybe swap out "let me defend" for "push/move up"?

I find gg not really that toxic, in fact when i lose a darts game. We say to each other good game. Everybody has a different view on that. But we need indeed something more like, stay out the goal. Or give us more options in the menu that we can chose which quick chats we want to use.

Maps are indeed small, so there is no need for a chat. That's why i don't want it in the game.

When i play with my buddies (which play way less than me) and we comm via Discord and I try to help them with gameplay during the game (besides in the downtime for sets), then I play much worse, because my concentration is divided and i miss more things, that I normally do nearly on autopilot.

I watched a lot of Omega Striker Videos lately, from way better players than me, to learn a few tricks, tactics and what they talk during their games (e.g. Streak_OS Americas Nr.2 in Beta)
Besides a much better control and understanding of what to do, they don´t really communicate about what they do or what to do with teammates.

The communication is mostly "my bad" "should have gone for that" or "how did that happen?" or daily life BS.
So you don´t need much communication during a game, you need to know, what your character is capable of and what he lacks and you can´t tell that to someone who is struggling during a game, because It makes even your gameplay worse.

A chat is even worse than comm, because you use your fingers to type and not to play, as DeaderSurvival said.

There's only one real reason you want it and that's because it enables you to be toxic to random people, since you quite clearly aren't playing with friends or people you can communicate with through discord or other voice chats.
