WARDOGS

Computer newb but game won't load due to anti-cheat error? Can someone help?
I'm not a pro with computers, sorry. I keep getting the following pop-up when loading the game. "An anti-cheat module could not be downloaded or installed.
Check your internet connection, VPN, proxy or firewall, then
try again. Reference: 877c050c02fe"...... I uninstalled and re-installed Elytra, rebooted, no change. Updated all my drivers, deleted the previous anti-cheat software they had, still no luck.

I'm having the same issue.

I've been trying everything. I've deleted the entire game, deleted my anti cheat, updated my drivers, redownloaded, and continue to have this issue. idk if its a user error on my part or what. I'm also not a pro with computers.
the same for me @CozyMoose
When i go into the file for wardogs i dont see an anti-cheat file in it. I even went as far as downloading squad again (it uses EasyAntiCheat) copied that file and put it into the wardogs file. No luck. idk, hopefully the devs are aware of this issue and can come up with a quick fix. @Roberto_Panni
I got the same problem. I though it was because I'm using CachyOS (Linux), I don't think it's an OS issue anymore, luckily.
WARDOGS' developers switched anti-cheat systems shortly before this playtest (to the "Elytra" system we found in your game files), and that switch dropped Linux/Proton support — despite earlier promises that Proton support was coming. Your local logs prove this cleanly: the anti-cheat module downloads and verifies successfully (network/VPN/firewall are fine), then fails one step later trying to install itself inside the Wine/Proton environment — consistent with an anti-cheat that simply hasn't been enabled/whitelisted for Linux yet.

This isn't just you — the official WARDOGS Steam support forum has a thread posted a few hours ago from another Linux user (Nobara) hitting the identical "Anti-Cheat module could not be downloaded" error, plus a separate thread about Bazzite players getting kicked with a "no heartbeat" error. It's a known, current, unresolved gap for all Linux/Bazzite/Steam Deck players on this playtest build — not a misconfiguration on your machine.

So: there's no client-side fix (not VPN, not firewall, not Proton-GE, not a fresh prefix) — the anti-cheat vendor hasn't turned on Linux support for this build. Your best options are to add your report to that existing Steam forum thread so the devs see the volume of Linux users affected, and watch for a patch — GamingOnLinux and the devs' own earlier statements suggest Proton support is still intended, just not shipped yet.
This is what claude found out on my computer, Im running bazzite linux.

I see, that sucks because I wanted to play with my friends lol, guess I'll have to wait. I hope they add Proton support fast. I also tried it playing it on my Windows partition but it literally crashes my PC, idk if it's because some strange BIOS configs or what.
I'm experiencing the same.

I'm a Linux only gamer. So unfortunately I will be waiting until Proton support is added to be able to play.

I wonder how many users in Steam Deck and Steam Machine will be unable to play.
very disappointing, was looking forward to playing this as a Battlefield replacement since moving to linux last year

Dang how did I not notice the emdashes? Well has anyone else been able to get it working then? I saw posts about removing the EAC folder but I didn't play in the first round so I doubt that exists for me.
Just downloaded the game to be in the playtest and saw this error :/ Sadly I'm also a linux-only gamer so I hope the devs add proton support...
damn thats annoying, goodbye playtest i guess
