Yup, pretty sure that is the preferred way to play.

yes, but you can't keybind (at least i didn't found it) however, every skill it's assigned to a button, that includes jump or dash, so you just go in the menu and change skill to designed button you prefer

I can change my controller settings in the configuration inside the steam library page.

My controller mappings reset every time I die or leave the game. Am I missing something?

I saw on a video you can select certain skills and map them to the buttons you prefer.. not sure if that changed (was a 1 day early video) try checking the skills page

You can't map default buttons with the game options (unless using keyboard) so you'll have to reset weapon skill configure on each load or start of new chapter.

More importantly you have to leave Steam's mapping enabled because the game does not respect non Bill-Brand MS Game Pads. My Logi X-input, as example, can not select the menu option for choosing the 'Select' button (the option is shadowed out) and only keyboard hotkey icons display while using my Logi without Steam mapping.

There's an option in opening menus to set the 'Select' button (shadowed out if non-Bill Brand MS Game Pad and Steam mapping disabled)
If you make the select button B then the buttons will rotate and the moves will default to a more standard setup.

Still you'll have to reassign skills which can't be done prior to mission; you have enter a mission first.

Baroconians right. A lot of people are straight up flaming anyone who says there is no rebinding "as the games tutorials LiTtErAlLy tells you how to" It does not. It tells you how to set actions but from what I can see they want B to be jump, since it has less upgrade slots than light attack at the moment. So technically you can but it doesn't make sense to do it like that.

Well I can't edit my post for whatever reason but I found out that you don't lose out on upgrade slots, they just dont show up until you add something in the blank spot. Still resets everytime you die so moving everything around each time is a pain

Especially since time continues on when you're rebinding, you don't lose that much time sure but a little inconvenient especially since enemies get stronger with time.
