Where can I get or fabricate new boots right at the start?

I've run between Central Knot City and Outpost West of Central Knot City making lost cargo deliveries and now I've worn out both pairs of boots! Where can I get more?

You can progress the story to the point that you can make them, or you can use sandalweed, or you can steal some from Mules.

You'll also have a better time if you get through the tutorial section (before you get on the boat) as efficiently as you can, and then come back to that area later once you've unlocked more stuff.

Yeah, it's better if you advance the story a few chapters to unlock better stuff. Chapter 3 is when the world opens up, 5 is when you get more weapons. If you want a good point where you can stop and do everything else first, it's Chapter 9.
