Is the 100% completion worth it?
Good morning, Sam. I have DS on Epic and put about 7 hours into it, now I'm interested in the steam version because of the achievements. My question to the completionists here though: is it worth the hassle, are the achievements fun to unlock or is it just mind numbingly monotonous? I read on HLTB it takes about 111 hours to complete the game, that's quite the investment.

If you're enjoying the gameplay loop then you'll take any excuse you can to keep playing.

If you're not enjoying the gameplay loop, play something else.

There is zero point forcing yourself to play something you aren't enjoying.

I'm in the same boat you are. Started this game on Epic and barely scratched the surface. Saw the DS2 Trailer and thought I'd give it another chance. Now I'm 30+ hours in and really enjoying it. Not worried about the 100% though. I'm just enjoying the story and my gear has slowly been upgraded so trekking about the DS world is much easier.

It's a very unique game.

As Warner said. If you like the gameplay loop and doing repeat deliveries, then go ahead.

But if you're just forcing yourself to switch over just for the achievements, it's best to just enjoy the game for what it has to offer and leave the achievements as is till you decide to actually want to pursue it.

enjoy the chill walks with music throughout the game, then you can decide if you want to go for archievements :dsdccheer:

You can get over half of the achievements by just finishing the game normally. There are only 5 or 6 achievements that can be grindy - one is hoarding stuff to craft all weapons and two are to deliver stuff over and over.
Just settle for 100% 5 stars, because at least that gets you more star stickers on your pants.

I played both original and Directors Cut multiple times for 100%. It is not really hard and takes about 60-80 hours depending on how good you know the mechanics. Some general advice:
Utilize zip-lines for delivery time and build a network of them; build roads and use cars to hoard lots of things to knots; do not breathe around BT's even if they kinda started to see you (odradek points up) so you can go back to stealth and lower your difficulty if a fight is too hard (this is not a shooter or a fighting, no shame in backing off and getting out; for example I beat the original game on max difficulty, but played DC on normal because I could not care less for the fights) and complete half-life and cyberpunk missions as soon as they pop up as they open really useful equipment. Use an interactive map to hunt down the collectibles for the achievement, and for H0mo Novus achievement - wait till after the game ended and create all equipment.
So, if you enjoy the core gameplay loop you are going to be able to 100% this game and have fun doing it.
Thanks for your answers and tips.

From what I've heard, I still seem to be in that phase of the game where a lot of people drop out because they can't get into the gameplay loop or find the story too boring. I'm more of a mechanics guy and so far I'm really digging it, I also really like the atmosphere and the overall design.

So don't worry, nobody has to sell me on a concept I'm already sold on. I just wanted to gauge what other completionists had to say before buying, because the best gameplay loop can be ruined by certain achievements.

A bit of pain and loss of sanity is part of the experience, it makes the dopamine rush all the better.

Keep on keeping on!

If you've made it seven hours and enjoy the mechanics, you should have a blast breaking seventy-plus hours as you work on completionism ;) Welcome to the club!
The completion completion - 540 LOLOL - doesn't even give you an achievement.
