How to make sure DualSense features are working properly:

1. Go to Steam library
2. Right click on Death Stranding Director's Cut and click "properties"
3. Navigate to the "controller" tab
4. Click on where it says "enable steam input" and DISABLE steam input
5. Next, go to your Windows sound control panel (on Windows 11 there's an extra step: access sound in system settings and click "more sound settings"
6. Locate the DualSense controller in the "playback" tab. On my PC it's called "[number]-Wireless Controller"
7. Enable this device in playback
8. Locate your main audio output device(s) (mine is "Headphones WH-1000XM3") and make that your default device, so that Windows doesn't think you wanna listen through the DualSense

Et voila!

This thread was originally titled "I don't feel the Dualsense haptic feedback".

Thanks to everyone who helped!

Ok, I have the solution!

So, like others have already said, right click the game in your library, open the settings, go to controller and turn off Steam input.

Then, open your Windows sound configurations (sound control panel specifically) and make sure that your Dualsense's audio output is ENABLED. I had mine DISABLED because I didn't think it was necessary, and it annoys me it defaults to the main audio output when I switch ports. It needs to be ENABLED ! You can set your main audio output as default after.

Try this. I am standing in the rain and I feel the rain throughout the dualsense, it's cool.
This also enables the trigger resistance?

(Edit: for those wondering - the adaptive triggers kick in when you're hitting your Max load)

I don't remember having to do this with Dying Light 2 or Metro Exodus. Maybe they coded the dual sense support differently than most other games? But the triggers work in Metro and DL2...and the vibrations still work without the audio enabled. Maybe the big vibration motor works without the controller speaker, but the HD rumble style finer haptics need the controller audio device enabled. This is interesting.

But that would explain why plugging it into another USB port worked for enabling haptics, I had also disabled the controller audio on my main port

have you tried disabling the steam controller config?

You mean have I tried disabling Playstation controller support in the Big Picture controller settings? If so, yes. When I do that, vibrations don't work at all.

Or did you mean something else?

Well, hold on a sec. They said the PC version would have Dualsense features. If they say so, then they must be here. It's just a matter of turning them on.

If you’re using Bluetooth it doesn’t work

Mate, the last sentence in my opening post is "I'm connected via USB"

Even when I disable the steam input, the game will detect the controller fine. All the buttons work, but even with the trigger feedback enabled in the game options, I don't feel any haptics. No vibration. No trigger resistance. Nothing. Maybe this needs a patch :( I was really looking forward to this today.

Has anyone out there gotten vibration or haptic triggers on dual sense working with this via USB? I cannot seem to get this to work no matter the settings.

Just out of curiosity, where does the theory that disabling PlayStation controller support would make haptic feedback come from?

It has nothing to do with haptics exactly, it's just that sometimes when the steam input is on, the playstation controller gets recognized as a xbox one.

Yup, same here. Using ps5 controller connected via usb cable and nothing. Triggers do not work as they should. Only vibrrations.

I get PlayStation button prompts though, so I'm assuming it isn't an issue with this game.

go to options of the game and disable steam input

The steam input can sometimes hijack the input of the connected controller in order to launder the input data through steam's system rather than the native game.

Try using the Dual Sense controller on the original Death Stranding. You have to enable steam input in order for the inputs from the Dual Sense to function properly. This is most likely because in order to get the extra data channels for the haptics and triggers, the Dual Sense has to use non-standard (think Xbox/XInput style) input data stream.

With the Dual Sense, games have to support it natively in order for the inputs to be decoded properly.

Steam's Input system was put in place to hijack the controller's inputs and interpret them so that games would think that the Dual Sense is using the same input channels controllers like Xbox controllers or DS4. Basically Steam put in their own interpreter so that people could use the Dual Sense on any Steam game since most games won't support it natively. Stea's input system does not currently support the full haptics of the Dual Sense controller. (games have to be built to support these new haptics)
