Awesome, Overrated or Past It's Prime?
I recently listened to a podcast (Three Moves Ahead) on tower defense games and it made me want to look into them more.

I know this game is pretty old now, but it is the third highest rated tower defense game on Steam. I saw that there was a sequel, but the majority opinion seemed to be that this was better than the second.

So what do you guys think? Is this the best tower defense game out there, was it overrated at the time or was it great back then but now really showing its age?

Also, for those of you who are Tower Defense aficionados - what are your favorites? Are there any really good new ones out?

I liked them both. If you never played them, I highly recommend it. The 2nd one allows bases that are not real towers, but allow you to create a maze without spending a lot on resources. To really get to high levels, you'll be honing your skills and learning when to build. Check you-tube and watch some videos. Then you can see how much fun it is.

Nope, sorry, can't tell you in advance if you will like it or not.
Take a chance and make up your own mind. It can be very rewarding.

That's not what I asked, but hopefully you feel better now?

Is the amount of time you have put the thought into this worth the cheap price of this game?

Try it yourself.

This game I come back to again and again. It's definintely one of my (if not the) favourite tower defence game I own. I have yet to play the sequel.
This one for me is simple to grasp but takes effort to master - and you can always up the difficulty, plus the addition of the DLC's do keep it fresh.
It's definitely worth a punt in my opinion. :)

To be honest, I did not realise that this game was from 2008... I only recently started playing it and it does not show it's age.
I like this game a lot, but it's not easy. With every stage you can do some extra challenges. They are nice to do, once you figured out a good lay-out for your towers.

I haven't played many tower-defense games, but another one that might be worth checking out is: "GemCraft - Chasing Shadows"...

Thanks everyone. I just bought Infested Planet myself - really good, but more slow-paced, "vs. the horde" RTS than tower defense.

It's great, but just try the demo.

100 % averrated. You have to find the proper build order to succeed without leak.
You have NO freedom in building.
You can't choose the target to focus (far / low hp / nearest to core etc).
You got no choice in difficulty. Ressources are ridiculously low.
This game is old and bad. Regardless of its price.. why someone would buy a cheap game if it's no fun ?

In fact it's more a puzzle game than a TD. NO FUN simply.
I had much (and still play co-op with friends for intense fun) with SOL SURVIVOR
Gemcraft CS for great solo TD. Even Defender's Quest is way more funny than this.
