Analyzing AT-5, SM13, and The Quiet Rapture
Hiya! I've spent time studying the game's text, and environment to explain the scope of its lore, and my concluding theory. I've become more invested into this game than I thought, but I love to share my passion for Iron Lung.

SM13's had Iron Lung deployed onto Moon AT-5 prior to The Quiet Rapture. These previous missions are evident in the briefing, and on the note written in the 2nd person. The convicts before you likely passed away from Oxygen deprivation. Iron Lung remained intact throughout its prior expeditions, so this suggests the SM13's capable of retrieving the submarine. The text post E V E N T also tells SM13 has satellite that mapped out AT-5's fourth Blood Ocean for navigation. They can differentiate between wreckage, and torn pieces, and easily locate Iron Lung's location, since they'd be familiar with its distinct shape, and materials.

T H E E V E N T You'll experience leaves SM13 with more questions than answers, and reveals their ignorance, since they didn't account for losing the Iron Lung. The life of the convicts aren't what mattered, as to them, we were expendable. They'll never truly know what we saw, but we can reflect on the memories to fulfill our curiosity.

The remains belonging to creatures of unimaginable sizes, and knowing you're not alone down there speaks for itself. There's worms / leeches that create bone crunching sounds as it rips through the blood ocean floor. There's ruins with abnormal architecture that follow general construction principles (Support columns, stairs, entrances / windows, and solid refined walls.) There's a visual distorting artifact that creates bubbles, which I personally describe as a twirling star, and there's an Obelisk that emits eerie sounds.

The beast within is adapted to this uninhabitable environment. How creatures of this magnitude can survive in an ocean of blood located out in the near perfect vacuum of space can be theorized from its origins. The civilization that previously inhabited this space before us.

And so begins some speculation...
This is a society that understands a science beyond our comprehension. Whether they walked, or swam is up for debate as their ruins had no doors, and its entrances weren't consistent. The star artifact may have contributed to our unexpected teleportation, and may be a clue for The Quiet Rapture. The eerie Obelisk is remnant of this society, and its exact purpose won't be known, however it is activated. I also believe those "worms" may be larvae of this beast.

My guess is, we are unwelcome guests that are suffering the consequences by invading the habitat of an endangered protected species. We've triggered The Quiet Rapture as a result of our curiosity. We weren't supposed to be here according to the previous inhabitants. That includes the beast expressing obvious aggression towards its nosy explorers.

Its as good a theory as any although I personally doubt the anomaly is what caused the The Quiet Rapture. It just seems like some impossible thing lying abandoned on the sea floor, and wiping out the universe because someone ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with a giant fish seems like overkill to me.
