I can't suggest anything because DD1 felt from my hands and I read often DD2 was less good so skipped it. Still I only failed play DD1, have some negative short opinions on first parts, but can't say how good or bad it is.
DD2 was one of my most regretted video game purchases of my entire life. The game was very uninspired, didn't do much of anything better than DD1/DA, and just fell flat in SO many areas.
It's kinda crazy that you say that DD2 was a regretted purchase considering the amount of content that you could do leading up to the last chapter. The diversity in builds, diversity in party make up... etc. One of the bigger issues with DD2 was the fact that the BIGGER the character the more that can be carried and being over encumbered was always an issue. Combat was fun and engaging and graphically the game was beautiful. Did it have faults? yeah.. oh yeah.. but nothing compared to Veilguard.
Maybe some day as a 20€ budget game.
Think DAV has some really good moments in the story, but its far away from Dragon Age: Origins.
If you can play through Veilguard from a hack and slash standpoint, you can play DD2. Except DD2 has more build diversity.
DAV is about the story with gameplay and exploration added.
Sadly DD2 really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with ♥♥♥♥ loot so there is little reward to explore.
So far my favorite is Drova Forsaken Kin.
JRPG is another story, with Metaphor Refantazio and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, there's some great games there.
