New to the franchise! What are the good Dragon Age games?
I would like to give the Dragon Age series a go and was wondering which ones are worth playing? I read that a bunch of people got laid off due to how poorly Veilguard was received, so it won't be this one, clearly.

Any recommendations on the good DA games?

Dragon Age Origins is the best one by far, tbh.

It's not that simple, it aged more than others, it still benefit of indulgence on multiple aspects, typically how most area are meh and linear or repetitive past the first areas, the wide camp and the wild outdoor this last being stunning. As typically is fans of Real Tile with pause became rare hence combats aren't that top for modern players.

But if old graphics, areas too linear and feeling repetitive also because lacking of details and variations, and many areas with average exploration is not a problem, then DAO is better on many aspects, mainly story, it has two of the best and deepest companions of the series even if all aren't that great, choices and sort of for consequences, end polishing with ton of variations, mage character building also not other classes, some more.

DAO didn't sold much more, only DAI sold significantly more.

DAV is no way a bad RPG, it mixes great aspects and questionable aspects, its combats are different but best of the series, the main story is stunning if you don't spoil yourself, the lore is stunning and widely better delivered than in any other DA, it's character building is better than in any DA but DAO mage, it has two of the most marking Bioware companions, even if behind most 2 marking companions of DAO, it has many more and better puzzling than DAO, its area are ùmuch better to explore than most of those of DAO, it has 2 big towns when no DAO achieve has enve a noteworthy town and in DAO it's a bit pathetic on that,

If you are looking to try a Bioware RPG, a safer bet would be Mass Effect Legendary, with the nuance that if the first part, ME1, starts be tedious for you, switch to ME2 then ME3 and after come back to ME1.

DAO (2009) sold twice as much in its first 3 months then DAV "engaged" with, and i would argue that there was less then half of the people had access to video games.

DAO can be buggy but honestly if you want to play DAI i would recommend the Legendary Edition of Mass Effect instead.

Ok perhaps DAV sold awfully, I didn't check. But DAO failed sell well, for example Oblivion sold around 10M so a lot more than DAO, and it was before DAO time.

DAO is a bizarre case, I agree it should have sold quite more.
If you like the game play elements of Star WARS KOTOR/ Neverwinter Nights, DA Origins will fit nicely in that realm. Otherwise, Inquisition would be my suggestion.
Just play Origins. It get progressively worse after that. Veilguard is an atrocity.

Just play origins with all dlc and mods forget the rest

all of them are pretty good in their own way, I don't care what anyone says
Origins is the only good one
Origins, DA 2 and DAI are all good and worth playing, though DA 2 is the weakest of the 3.
Dragon Age Origins / Awakening is the only truly good one. It aged, yes, but the community made many fixes (you only need Quinn's Fixpack and Dain's Fixes). DA2 is decent, but has worse dungeons than DAO. Inquisition is OK. That's it.

What are you talking about, DAO sold "really, really well" https://www.vg247.com/dragon-age-sells-over-1-million-pieces-of-dlc

DAO didnt match the sales of DOOM or Halo 3 also.
They are overall very different games and had different expectations.

DAO was successful, DAV was not.

*further more DAO sold 3 million in its first 3 months. Oblivion sold 3 million in its first 10.

Despite what you might of heard Veilguard is worth a play. As someone who played them all.

This would be my ranking:

1. Origins
2. Inquisition
3. Veilguard
4. Dragon Age II

None of those games are bad RPG's, but I will say Origins remains one of my favorite RPG's of all time.

Finally, EA the worst. BioWare was far better off without them.
As someone who's played them all, don't sleep on DA2! It's got an amazing story and characters, even though it has highly repeated maps. It's my favorite game of all of them, and that's including DAI and its DLC, Trespasser (which on its own is one of my top favorite video games of all time, haha).

But in order to truly enjoy DA2 (and the rest of the games), I think playing Origins first is the way to go. There's just so much world building in DAO that can't be skipped if you really want to dive into it all. The story of Origins is also very, very good! My only issue with the game is how the mechanics and graphics have aged. If you can look past that, you'll find a wonderful gem and hours of great gaming!

Origins is my favourite. Reasons. The origins, stories and characters, the more tactical RPG combat, the darker grittier story. Next favourite would be Inquisition, it's more modern but I found it lacking after Origins. Da2 being a distant third, I enjoyed the story but they changed it to an action rpg, and it was very lacking in many areas as they were forced to make it in a shorter time than usual, so they cut a lot of corners.
