Its rare that a run lines up to let you do that, but its fun when it happens.
I also wonder if the only ballista achievement is exclusive to ballista's only (Seems more doable if I could build a university or some mana regens to boost power).
Any maxed tower will do good damage, yes; but not as ridiculous as a Poison Thrower/Flamethrower.
Other towers don't do 250% of their damage as Poison/Burn, and also do 20% of the DoT stack as crit damage. It's the fact that P.Sprayer also causes massive slowdown (consolidating enemies), and has an extremely effective AoE range when used correctly, that makes it brainless.
I wouldn't say it's rare at all to set up. As mentioned, I cleared all three formats back to back, just beelining for broken poison sprayers. I'd say it has at least a 50% win rate. When the map starts, surround houses with ballistas, and start expanding out in every direction, looking for your first straightaway. Take cards for ballista range and mana bolts, poison-tree, p.sprayer-tree, university-tree, and siphon/bank/banditry/etc.
If you make it to round ~12-15, you pretty much win. Every lane has an even-stat poison sprayer deleting 90% of the wave. Ballistas around tower clean up. You can force where the first oogie spawns, and drop a handful of Health Ballistas around that lane's sprayer. Between rounds 15-25, the crit damage comes online, and it's game over.
Don't even need to watch or think about the game with it going.
Yeah there's one big problem currently in the game which is that you have no incentive to currently to unlock all cards. In fact, unlocking cards currently actively hurt you.
Almost all other towers in the game are worthless.
The only towers worth buying currently are mortar, poison tower, jet plane, flame thower, ballistic, mana bank and haunt graves. everything else actively hurt players chances of winning.
Jet plane kills all bosses, i am not even joking, if you just buy 4 jetplanes, you have instantly beaten all bosses. Because track gets infinitely longer, the jetplanes become infinity stronger because boss has longer path way to get your base, so basically jet planes are best boss killer towers now.
Flame towers and poison towers are best mob killers now because the way the game scales upgrades is that faster attackspeed of tower, the more valuable the upgrade is and since best way to multiply your damage is to remove armor and shield and these tower do just that. They end up also being best health killers because by upgrading your tower, your upgrading their base damage so by the end of the game, they're also the best health tower. they're just not best early game tower because it costs mana to use. Due creepy cough upgrade, Poison tower ends up being better at slowing enemy than actual frost tower.
So early game is literally ballistic/mortar spam-> 1 jet plane by round 15 ->poison throwers-> flame throwers->haunted houses-> spam armor/health on flame thrower & health/poison on poison thrower-> buy Jet planes at boss waves = win game.
They need better balance other towers because currently those other towers are complete traps and if you buy these other towers, you have reset all the way back to 0.
They should really consider changing reset function to something like undo upgrade/remove upgrade because it currently removes build options even if hypothetically other towers were useful.
No mention of saw blades? I agree with your assessment but won on easy with everything in your list except haunted houses. I put a few saw blades away from my base as far as I can , upgrade them and they do weaken everything . The are my first choice actually.
Poison Sprayer is literally good enough to beat the game all by itself every time. So is Tesla Tower. Every Biplane/Saw/Flamethrower/Haunted-house in the mix just slows it down, especially if you choose it in-game and open up multiple followup cards.
All you need is Mana Bank + P.Sprayer / Tesla cards + Poison Tree. Preferably Poison Sprayer.
Spam Ballistas for house income. Advance in all directions and place ballistas on elevated spots with ~2-3 armor upgrades. Pick up poison sprayer and mana bank. If it screws you (which is more likely with more dud cards and almost impossible with none), take safety cards like ballista slow, ballista range, mana bolt.
Round 10, you should be placing poison sprayers on all routes, and immediately upping them to 7/7/7 or 8/8/8. Pump them up evenly until you get close to round 15. Extend one route longer than the others. After wave 14, do not select expand on that route. Oogie will spawn on the longer route. Pump Health on that poison sprayer. If you already have creeping cough, put a couple ballistas nearby. All of this really isn't even necessary, averagely-upgraded-sprayer + random ballistas will still dunk on oogie.
Then just keep pumping the sprayers, add poison tree, add crit, add more weaker sprayers to proc crits, tune out at round 20 except to just buy upgrades.
It also cost so little to level the tesla coil its insane, it cost +10 each upgrade so at lvl 43 it cost 430 gold. try it out with maybe a frost tower or something to slow things down.
I'm familiar with Teslas, yes. Poison sprayers are better for very early game, and also for L39+ portal enemies that need to be killed 3 times. They're also easier to place; all they need is a 4+-tile straightaway, not a +3 3-turn roundabout with no splits.
Pretty much the only time Teslas are better are when you're trying to use just one tower, for whatever reason. Poison Sprayers are much more expensive to upgrade, and as such, the best late game poison sprayer strategy is to place multiple sets of ~3 poison sprayers on each route, or place them in typically-good spots that can *also* turn around and spray earlier parts of the path.
