Questions about Co-Op

Hello! I'm looking to purchase the game for my friends and me. I have a few questions prior to purchasing.

1. After a multiplayer session, will our progress and collected items be saved? Or will we have to grind for them again?
2. Couch Co-Op: Is there a possibility of that happening?
3. Crossplay: I'm familiar with playing in servers that encouraged crossplay between PS4/PS5 and PC (ex: Rocket League). Would that be a possibility?
4. How will the Steam multiplayer work when joining friends' servers? Would we be able to drop in in a world that our friends are in, or would we have to wait in a lobby until they're finished playing?
5. What is the amount of multiplayers in a single session? (ie: 1-4, 16, etc.)

All I know is that they'll be slowly adding online co-op to each world in the coming months, they have a timeline posted in one of their news updates on Steam.

Cross play is only for big game centered around multiplayer, because it's very hard ( and expensive ) to get Sony/Microsoft/Nitendo to allow it. So even if we don't know yet... It's almost sure that we don't get it.

For the max number of players it's four : You can see a co-op machine on each world with four player.
