It DEFINITELY feels like DoW3 all over again, yes =(
If you're buying this game for the campaign alone, you're wasting your money, and should definitely wait till it drops in price.
Now I'm a pretty big fan overall and got the preorder fleet commander edition and all of that, and I will agree with the price. Game is probably a 7/10 right now, and for 80$ 10h campaign on normal is a little bit underwhelming. at 50-60 I think it would be fine for what it is, but 80 is a big ask.
Bingo! DOW3 was the same issue. Devs who didn't seem to understand why DOW2 was so good.
Easily the worst part is the story in this game.
I think you seriously underestimate the ratios of the players, most casual players play the campaign and then their done and i doubt even 15% of the total sales are done to the die hard players who spend tons of time modding/multiplaying and keep playing once the campaign is done.
If the main campaign is as short as rumored, perhaps you end up right as few want to spend the asked price thus the game will carer basically only to the die hard fans that see the long proposition. Its also very likely it will end up as dead game in multiplayer etc since few grabbed it and logically few moves to the next level of "fandom"
Imagine if freespace was made today, just imagine the dropped features and retcons.
HW didn't get cult status thanks to amazing and artistic cinematics and solo campaign with drawn art instead of CGI, but it certainly didn't hurt!
So, the door is wide open for mods, there is skirmish and multiplayer content with leveling, and skins down the pipeline given these earlier packs.
yeah, solo campaign doesn't live up to expectations, but if you enjoyed odd HW skirmish and even multiplayer, tried one of these mods to battle with Battlestar Galatica, Star Wars or this complex mod you are likely to get the 80 bucks worth over the next decade as nothing is really infringing on this ultra fan space battle segment.
So we have HW3, but when does the XCOM Long War mods come relased? Most are probably glad its just released, and doesnt involve rebooting HW1 and HW2 first like with XCOM and admitting that remastering was a mistake, as it wasnt?
HW is a bit more 'special' than cult classics like XCOM and lets say Total Anihilation and its transforms similarities, as that stuff may not get remastered or rebooted.
But yeah, can get silently walk away from the television and news broadcasts and do some quick skirmish or co-op. And certainly, nobody care it's Half Life: Couner Strike anymore, and someone will probably make a single player mod, as if Half Life was a single player Counter Strike mod?
The early access stuff feel like beta testing war games and co-op stuff that needs work.
So fine, HW3 is out, when do we get complex mod for it?
Assume complaints and concerns have gotten alot of attention by devs?

So I'm past it.

When do we get the mods that fixes things for everyone with strong opinions and preferences?
So maybe in about a month I'll buy this game. Been looking forward to it.
Glad it is soon to be released.
I hope launch and engagement goes really well.
Much thanks to the devs and creators and artists who worked hard to get this game into the universe.
:coffee:
For me it's a classic, and must have for good gaming experiences 25 years ago! Every now and then its been great to repeat. But yeah, the hype is likely driven by all the hype around no information on mods that have been important.
